New Joiners - Landscapes #562

September 2021

This is a pretty striking image, the colours are nice and vibrant and the stormy sky looks great. I like the composition, there's a lot of dead space but it doesn't really look unbalanced despite the tower dominating the image.

I love the leading line of the drystone wall winding through the shot, it really draws the eyes through the photo and forces you to look at everything in front of you. I quite like the processing too, muted colours and low contrast sometimes don't work but I think this suits it just fine.

Immense reflections, I'm a huge fan of mirrored lakes and this one ticks the right boxes. Nicely exposed and pretty good composition. I'd give it a touch of clockwise rotation to make the tree vertical, this will level out the waterline a bit too as the image is leaning to the left as it is.

This is an awesome image, I love the reflections and the whole scene is nicely exposed. The rocks mimic the shape of the reflection perfectly, this is a really well thought out composition. The horses definitely add to the photo too! Lovely shot :)

Nice reflections! It's no secret that my favourite photos all include reflections so it's always nice to see a strong image entered. Was it possible to tilt upover a bit when taking this? There's quite a bit of dead space along the bottom of the image but the top of the mountain is pretty close to the top of the image.

Pretty awesome sunset colours here! I like your composition too, incorporating the pools and patterns in the sand. It's a shame about the footprints, not that there's much you can do about them! The colours reflecting in the water look really beautiful.

I'm a huge fan of a big foreground anchor and you've done a nice job here. I can't help thinking that tilting down maybe a couple of degrees to include the full reflection of the big rock would have given just that little extra edge that would have probably made me pick this as the number one shot. Still, I really really like this, it's exposed well and I like the processing too :)

'A' for effort getting up here for a photo, it's not an easy walk but it's oh so worth it. The view from the top platform where you were is arguably one of the finest views in the UK. It may have paid to use a graduated filter on the sky to darken it down a little, it's not overexposed but it could do with a tad more angry mood!!

This is full of a depth and atmosphere you just can't create without a long lens, I like the way the rocks and island just seem so close to one another. You could have probably got away with a lower iso and still retained a fast enough shutter speed to capture what you have.

Nice and moody, muted colours and low mist make for a terrific shot. I love the road winding through the image. I'd maybe have cropped a little off the right as it's very dark and I'm not sure it necessarily adds to the overall image.

I think this has potential to be a really stong image, however the out of focus tree in the immediate foreground commands so much attention it's difficult to ignore it. You could probably crop it out and be left with a strong image, having the S shaped path winding through the image from bottom left to top right would look fantastic.

I love the curves in this, that swooping S shape in the dune is magic. I'd have liked to see some blue in the sky, even if it wasn't strong. I think it needs to be either all black & white or all colours. Still, it's a lovely photo, the patterns in the sand are pretty epic!

This is a pretty cool shot, I like that it's just no frills composition and a frame-filling rainbow. The colours are nice and vibrant but not too saturated they look unnatural, exposure wise it seems pretty even and the contrast between inside and outside the rainbow looks great.

I quite fancy visiting here, the minimalist landscape seems to evoke a sense of calm and photos always look super clean. Nice colours, the contrast between the deep blue sky and orange dunes looks fantastic. Compositionally it's pretty strong, If it was possible I'd have included a little more space to the right of the shadow as it's a little close to the edge of the frame.
