I have a bit of an obsession with Everest and in my mind these prayer flags are synonymous with the mountain and the region. The bright colours of the flags stacked up the left hand side contrast well with the bright, white of the snow and the clarity of the clear blue sky. I like the perspective and how the eye moves from one part of the image to the other. Well done.

Roads and highways can be interesting compositional tools because they provide a way into an image and evoke ideas of roadtrips and adventure. You use those tropes to good effect in this image, with the road dipping downhill, rapidly descending to the large and imposing mountain beyond. A classic composition tool that works well in this scenario.

This shot of a pier has a nice sense of perspective with the wooden boards and white fences leading off into the distance. The street lights on the right add to that sense of perspective. The colours of the pier and the sky compliment each other well. The only issue is that you're not completely in the middle of the walkway so two sides of the pier are uneven. Making sure you shoot directly down the middle of such a structure would create an even more satisfying image.

This image has an abundance of atmosphere that just resonates through the whole scene. I imagine this must have been an amazing scene to witness as the sun rose and lit up all the cloud clinging to the mountain top. The fact that it's shot on a phone demonstrates that the best camera really is the one you have on you. I love the warm tones that permeate the scene, from the lit up cloud in the bottom left to the fiery colour in the sky above. To top it off, the reflection in the lake below just adds another layer to the image.

This is a really nice landscape image that has lots of atmosphere. There are so many layers in this capture, moving from the trees in the front to the mountains in the background. I really like the variation in colour, from the greens and yellows to the more hazy blues behind. The rising fog adds something special to the composition, mirrored by the clouds in the sky. It's an image that makes you want to look deeper and enjoy. Nice work.

This is an evocative seascape that has plenty of intriguing and dramatic elements. The low perspective uses the pebbles to push into the main heart of the image, with gorgeous warm light catching off the cliffs and sea. There is a sense of movement in the waves crashing off the shoreline with adds something to the narrative. I would say the colours are a little overcooked, and desaturating a little may well produce more pleasing results. Still, this is a lovely seascape.

This is a delicate image that most might overlook, but there is something about the atmosphere that I find appealing. The spectre of the mountain peak hiding amongst the abundance cloud traversing the summit is an intriguing sight that can be difficult to translate into a single frame. The pastel colours and simple framing aid the composition here, and the whole image is elevated by your thoughtful and philosophical caption. Thank you for sharing.

This is a classic autumnal image that uses the river to create an appealing reflection of those wonderful, crisp yellows and oranges on the trees lining the riverbank. I like the low perspective that you've used to give prominence to the trees and I like the variation in the colour from one side of the river bank to the other. The detail of the fallen leaves in the foreground is also appealing. The highlights in the sky are a little blown which is a shame because that big patch of white dominates and distracts. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to rectify in post, but exposing for the highlights when shooting can mitigate the problem in future.

This is a delightful monochrome image that uses the elements in the frame to good effect. There's often nowhere to hide with monochrome images as you're bringing the image down to it's basic elements of highlights and shadows. The wooden bridge leads the eye through the image with the lovely dunes dancing either side, but the real star of the show is the two birds against the tumultuous sky. Without them, it would be an average image, but they elevate and give some interest to the frame. Nicely seen and captured.

The minute I laid eyes on this image it resonated with me. It's such a wonderful juxtaposition of the seasons and a lovely rendition of the transitions between summer and autumn. That cluster of autumnal colour is absolutely gorgeous against the green backdrop, balanced out by the river crashing against the granite rock on the left hand side. This is a wonderfully seen and captured image, well done.

Meet the expert judge

This is a classic 'road trip' shot that makes the most of the atmospheric conditions. The road moving off into the distance has a universal appeal. The road is flanked by sunlit trees aids the composition and the hint of mist beyond provides some separation from the mountains behind. I like the line of light that falls in the foreground. There seems to be a dust bunny in the sky that's a bit distracting and can be quickly removed in post.

This is a classic landscape image that incorporates plentiful features of the natural world into the composition. I like how you've framed the scene with the trees on the left and right, leading the eye into the water, the treeline behind and the clouds in the sky that seem to mirror that woodland and the hills beyond. The side light that is dappling the foreground is really lovely and tops off a nice composition.

As rainbows go, you've captured an absolute beaut here. The arc of the rainbow traversing the heart of the image is well seen and captured, with the warm light on the trees beyond adding something special to the composition. There is some noise in the image that makes me think it was probably shot on a phone, but the lack of EXIF data means it's hard to confirm that. Noise can be dealt with in post to give the image even more appeal. Still, lovely rainbow.

You've managed to capture some majestic light in this image. I don't know whether this is sunset or sunrise, but that rich light evokes the golden hour. I like that the light is catching on the island in the middle of the lake but the background remains dark and in shade. Well seen and captured.
