There’s a rather otherworldly feel to this image and it just as well might have been taken on Mars rather than Namibia. There’s a depth to this that leads the eye into the scene through the bleached rocks to the rushing waterfalls. Shooting into the sun can pose all kinds of problems but you’ve controlled the exposure really well, adding to the atmosphere of this image. This is enhanced further by the silhouettes of the birds circling high. It’s even more impressive that it was taken on an iPhone.

There is plenty to enjoy about this image, from the fallen tree trunk in the foreground covered in a smattering of snow mirroring the snow-capped peaks in the background. Choosing a portrait orientation means that the eye is lead from the trunk to the frozen lake and scenery beyond. The colours are predominantly brown but they’re offset by the striking blue in the sky and the hint of turquoise in the frozen lake.

Absolutely love this dead carcass of this tree twisting through the desert earth and arching towards the sky. It leads the eye to the rock formations and colours beyond. The horizon is rather off which distracts, and although it would mean sacrificing some of that magnificent tree. The sky is also blown out which is the price you have paid for exposing for the tree trunk. Still, this has lots of personality and atmosphere.

I really liked this image. I like the colour in the sea, turquoise and green, contrasting with the dark clouds of the horizon. I like the carcasses of the trees piled up along the shoreline, with one rising from the pile, almost reaching towards the seagull flying above. However, the horizon is rather wonky which is off-putting and distracts from an otherwise interesting and compelling image.

This is a lovely and impressive autumnal scene that has a lot of depth and colour. The water moving through the middle leads the eye through all that beautiful foliage to the cliffs and landscape beyond. The little hint of low cloud and mist in the distance is delightful, catching the sun as it risings through the cloud. One of my favourite parts of France and it’s nice to see some images from there. Thanks for sharing.

This is a powerful long exposure that uses all the elements present in the frame to good effect. The warm colour tones in the sky contrast with the deep blues of the water and compliment the lights of the lighthouse. The movement of the water gives the impression of the sea rushing both towards and away from the shoreline. It’s an effective image.

Not sure if this is a drone image or just taken from the cliffs above the beach as there is no info other than the rather literal description of ‘ocean’ but either way the perspective works and creates a rather pleasing delineation between the ocean and the sand. The blue ocean compliments the warm tones of the sand and the flock of seagulls really adds to the sense of scale (and sense of fun). Nicely done.

This is a rather dramatic scene that makes the most of the beautiful foreground and the light that is breaking through the cloud, peaking above the mountain/hill in the background. There’s some lovely layers present from the flash of red and green to the darker greens and warm tones spreading through the clouds. The sun star created by the low sun also works well. There’s a few dust spots present that could be easily removed in post-production.

This is as really good example of when to leave the sky out of the image and how that can improve a composition. The river moving through the valley acts as a powerful leading line, the deep blues contrasting with the vibrant greens of the shoreline. The hint of snow towards the back of the valley adds a little something extra, and the even light provides a uniformity to the scene. To have included the sky would have meant a large distraction and I much prefer your tight composition and crop.

Nice to see some overcast and cloudy images in this collection. The reflection is lovely and full of variation in colour with hints of blues and greys pulling through, framing the city beyond. The structure in the bottom left gives some grounding to the rest of the image although I would like to see a bit more room at the bottom of the frame and a little less at the top to balance out the composition.

Absolutely gorgeous image that shows off how marvellous conditions can change the feeling of a scene. It’s mornings like this that made me fall in love with landscape photography in the first place and whenever I see images like this there’s a pang of envy. It’s not just the conditions that work here, it’s the composition as well. That dominant tree on the right is well positioned, framed by the lines of sunlit mist. However, the real joy for me is the poppies lining the verge, adding richness and symbolism. A worthy winner, thank you for sharing.

This is an interesting image that makes the most of the conditions. Those plants/foliage in the foreground are really intriguing. It’s a shame that the bottom of them have been chopped off by the crop. The atmospheric low cloud gives the image an ethereal feel, and the sun breaking through adds to the atmosphere.

The joy of this image is defined by both it’s simplicity and complexity. Ostensibly it’s just a shot of some trees, but it’s much more than that. There’s variation in the colour of the foliage from lime greens to darker greens, with the sweep of the branches revealing a little bit of the landscape beyond. On the surface it’s just a shot of some trees catching the light but it’s a one of those images that demands a closer look.

Now this must have been an amazing scene to witness with that low cloud clinging to the undulating landscape in the morning light. The trees help to add a sense of scale but I would encourage a 1:1 crop so attention focusses on the trees in the middle and we lose the distraction of the darker foliage near the edges.

This is a classic waterfall shot that uses all the elements in the scene to good effect. The colour of the water is really lovely, turquoise in tone and contrasting with the yellows and the greens of the scenery above. The bridge helps to close off the composition and the colours balance out with the browns in the foreground. There’s a little bit of a blue colour cast of the waterfall itself that could be easily colour corrected in post.
