New Joiners - Landscapes #634

August 2022

What a beautiful view along one of Scotlands most famous lochs! Given the weather you had It almost looks like you could have been in Switzerland or the Italian Alps. Nice foreground too, it's well balanced and doesn;t take away from the spectacular view behind!

An easy choice for number one, this is a wonderful image. It's exposed perfectly, the composition is beautiful and the subject itself is just fantastic. I love mountainscapes, they are powerful images and show a side of nature that cannot be tamed.

Beautiful reflections, what a stunning scene to photograph too. It's exposed well, has nice colours and the composition is even. I particularly like the inclusion of the kayaker as it really gives a sense of scale. I'd maybe add a bit more contrast in but its just a minor point.

I really like this, it's simple and effective. I like the way you've processed it, it feels very warm and easy to look at. The composition is nice, and it's exposed correctly. You've nailed the focus on the main flower head too, great job.

I like the colours here, they look really natural and warm. The thing that stands out immediately when looking at this image is the sloping horizon. It absolutely needs to be level when water is involved otherwise the image looks unbalanced!

One of the places on my list of must visits when I'm in the Dolomites at some point, it's somewhere that just looks so alien and remote. I love the angry sky in this, it looks loads better than a bright blue sky that is common over there!

I've driven past this little bridge about 30 times and always think it'd make for a good photo but I've never stopped to take it. I'm glad you did as it looks spot on. You've been lucky with the weather too, it's not that often you can boast a day like that in the highlands!

I love the layers in this, the longer focal length does a wonderful job of creating the depth throughout the photo. You've made a nice job of the processing, it's not heavy-handed so there aren't any nasty halos around the high contrast edges and the overall image looks well balanced.

I love the layers in this, they really show off the depth in the image. Telephotos do a great job of compressing scenes that are otherwise not visible. I've got a very similar shot from a visit to Tuscan and it's one of my own favourite shots.

Lovely mood and atmosphere in this image, I love the low cloud hugging the rocks and the little flash of colour from the rainbow makes a big impact. It's nicely composed, sharp, evenly exposed, and holds your interest. Nicely done.

A really cool-looking long exposure, I can't help but think the whole image would have looked more striking if it was in black and white. The sky is pretty much greyscale anyway and the colours in the foreground aren't strong enough to tie the image together.

Beautiful reflections and mood here, the lingering mist helps massively to create the atmosphere. I like the warm colours, and the almost central horizon works well. You've done a good job of containing the highlights, the sun's a little blown out but it still looks spot on.

I can see what you were going for here, but the image just doesn't have the impact it could have had. The difference in dynamic range from the sky to the dark hills is huge, and therefore the image looks a bit unbalanced.

What a cool and surreal image. I like that there's nothing for miles except this one lonely windmill. It's almost as if there's a standoff between the tower and the raincloud. I'd maybe have cropped it a bit from the bottom right to bring the windmill more towards the right hand side 3rd,
