New Joiners - Landscapes #655

November 2022

Crowd and
Expert winner

I absolutely love this, it's a spot I've visited before and will revisit time and time again on workshops. The whispy cloud looks fantastic, as do the muted colours and bold composition. The mountains look so imposing and always make for a great shot. Well done on the number one slot, a lovely image all round.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Landscapes’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Animals’.

This looks pretty nice for a phone shot, I've got the same phone and I'm constantly amazed at how well it performs in the right conditions. The sky looks tremendous and it's done a good job of keeping the detail in the shadows. Nicely composed too, good job.

I like this as it gives me a feeling of vastness, like I could drive for hours and hours without seeing anyone. I'm sure this isn;t the case but I get that impression. Lovely colours in the trees, and the big cloudy sky looks wonderful.

This reminds me of being in the Dolomites a little, we've had plenty of days where we've been stood in snow that wasn't forecast shooting a lovely sunrise over the mountains. Nicely composed, exposed well and the figure gives a good sense of scale. What's not to like?

I admire the effort that's gone into your composition and the subject matter is pretty good but you need to work on your settings. The aperture is very narrow when you could have shot this at f11 and the shutter speed is very low resulting in blown out highlights. Try upping your shutter speed and shooting at a wider aperture and this should help with camera shake and overexposure.

This is awesome, I love star trails and when done over an extended period they look fantastic. It really shows off how fast we are moving through space and gives a sense of wonder. I'd maybe clone out the little bright spot on the middle of the tree as it's catching my eye

I like this, the low down angle has given you the opportunity to include some sky which you don't get if you shoot from a little higher up the hill. You've got some nice colour too, I'm guessing this was shot maybe around August judging by the greens? Really nice image.

A nice simple shot that has a lot going for it. It seems sharp all the way through, looks well exposed and has plenty to keep me occupied while looking. I like the bright blue sky, it usually doesn't work but it looks nice here.

This is a wonderful shot, and one that not that many people will get the opportunity to take. I love the animal tracks in the snow,. The patterns in the Aurora look nice, maybe a little bright but I'm sure the bright spot could be remedied in lightroom.

Nice reflections, looks like you had some fantastic conditions. I'd maybe have tilted the camera down a bit to centralise the horizon, the reflections are danger close to the bottom of the frame as is and although they're not cut off, there's an awful lot of sky at the top that could be sacrificed to balance out the image!

I remember the first time I saw a photo of this tower, it had me fascinated. It just looks so alien, poking up out of the ground all on its own. The light is lovely in your image, and the moon being there really adds a nice element to an otherwise bland sky!

Seceda is an unreal spot for photography, it just looks so unimaginably dramatic in all conditions! This is a great example of a classic composition, I like how you've included the figure as it shows off the enormity of the scene in front of her.

I love this, the composition is so striking as it looks like a jellyfish. It's great seeing the seaside from above, you get a great view that you just cant appreciate from at sea level. Nicely exposed and great colours too.
