New Joiners - Landscapes #657

December 2022

Some nice reflections there, it looks a pretty calm day. I'd maybe crop this 3:2 favouring a landscape orientation as there's an awful lot of blue sky. It could do with being warmed up a little too :) It looks like somewhere I'd like to go shoot!

I love light trails, they're unusual and take a bit more thinking about than a normal photo. You've done a nice job here, taking into account your composition as so may don't. I'd maybe have considered light painting the tree a little to bring some of the detail out.

A pretty easy choice for the number one slot, it's a stand out image in this competition. The colours are great, it's composed well, it's sharp and most importantly the light is fantastic! I like the lead in using the fence too. I've shot here a few times and it's always nice to nail it in these conditions. Well done

The composition on this is lovely, although it might have been favourable to raise the camera maybe 6 inches to ensure the full reflection. Another thing to remember is that the sky isn't really ever darker than the foreground so it looks a bit unbalanced. I think with a couple of tweaks this could be an outstanding image.

A bold decision to keep the lighthouse framed centrally, usually it wouldn't work but it looks nice here, there's a good balance of colour across the image to make it work. I'm impressed that this is a phone shot, modern phones do a great job.

I like the composition here, you've clearly thought it through as it looks nice and balanced. I'm impressed that it's a phone shot too, for a small sensor they manage the dynamic range pretty well. There's a lighter patch of sky on the right hand side, not sure if that's the phone or you while editing but it could do with being addressed!

Bizarrely, both the number one and number 2 slots are from the Lake District which is unusual! The light in this is just sublime, that glow looks amazing and the colours are so vibrant. To be honest, the only thing that's made this number 2 as opposed to the winner is the tree in the top right. It pulls my eye and I can't unsee it once I've seen it.

A pretty simple and straight forward composition that works great. The low cloud/fog has done you a favour here as it's made the tree really stand out. The sky is a bit overexposed but as the sun looks to be right in front of you it can be excused!

Mad colours and a pretty unique composition get this image into the top 10. list I like that you framed it so that the sun wasn't fully exposed, as well as thinking it through to keep the trees central. The vignette is a bit heavy but it's not the end of the world.

What a beautiful vista, and a lovely capture of it too! I love the lead in and the sense of scale long created by the 2 figures on the path is impressive. Exposure is bang on too, and its processed nicely. Great job :)

I really like this, it looks like an alien landscape it's cool that places like this actually exist. The sky is a bit overexposed at the top so I think if you crop this to a 3:2 ratio to lose the top of the sky it'd look really good.

I really like this photo, the colours are beautiful and it's a nice simple scene. It's composed nicely, feels balanced and the exposure is bang on. I like the stream as a lead through as well. Nice one I'd be chuffed if I'd taken this one.

At first glance I thought this was a huge river delta flanked by vast forests, it's a good illusion! Make sure you keep an eye on your horizon levels as it's sloping to the left a bit so looks wonky. Nice colours overall.

What an awesome sunrise/sunset! It looks like you had some fantastic conditions. I love the lead in from the old weathered jetty, and the colour reflected in the water is nice too. Maybe look at cropping to 16:9 for a panoramic version too?
