New Joiners - Landscapes #673

February 2023

I have a Samsung S22 and I'm always amazed at the quality of the photos from it, this one's no different. It looks great. I like the river leading my eyes through the photo and there's just the right amount of sky to balance it out.

Lone tree shots are a favourite of mine, there's something about a sense of isolation that is calming. I like the almost monotone processing here, and the angry sky works really well. The composition is nice, and I like that you've silhouetted the tree.

This is pretty cool, it almost looks like martian landscape. I've never really seen anything from here before so it's nice to see something different. It looks a pretty amazing place to be and photograph. I'd maybe look at cropping the lighter coloured sand in the foreground out, I'm not sure it really adds anything to the image.

Nice composition, although I'd have liked to have seen the very end of the headland included on the left. You've processed this nicely and it's got a lot to hold my interest and keep me occupied. Good job keeping it sharp if the drone was being blown about too.

I really like this, it's typical of a northern Norwegian scene and shows off the scenery well. I'm actually in Lofoten now while judging this contest! You've caught some nice colours here, and the photo is nice and sharp throughout.

A pleasant enough image, but I feel it could be improved with a crop. There's a lot of open sky that doesn;t really add to the image so I'd maybe look at cropping some of the sky out and maybe a bit of the immediate foreground to make it more of a letterbox ratio.

I really like the perspective here, top down drone shots are really appealing as they are just so different to the norm and let us see the world in a way we wouldn't usually be able to. I love the churned up sand from the waves, and the way the waterline mimics the rocks.

I think a photo needs to tell a story, it needs to show the viewer something about the moment you were in but I'm not really getting that here. There's nothing that gives me a sense of scale or helps me to understand what I'm looking at. Technically it's ok, exposed well and in focus but it just doesn't excite me!

This is great, the fog gives it a real mysterious 'end of the world' look. It's composed nicely and exposed correctly. I'm intrigued as to what the structures in the water are. I like that the city skyline in the background is hard to make out, it forces you to look around and explore the image more.

Cityscapes or urban photography usually don't appeal to me but I really like this. You've done a great job of containing the highlights on what I imagine was quite a tricky shot to get right. Nice composition too, I like that you've given the sky some spce to include all of the lights.

A lovely tranquil scene, with some nice soft colours throughout. It's composed well, doesn't really have any distractions and shows off the English countryside well. I like that there's a hint of mist on the water too. Nice job on the processing too.

This is a stunning image, I absolutely love the colours and the reflections are to die for. I like the jetty as a lead in and the composition overall is strong. It's processed well and has loads to keep me occupied. Nice job and well done on the win.

I love the sun rays in this, the early morning fog coupled with the golden light looks fantastic. Nicely composed as well, using the tree to block the sun thus avoiding blown highlights. I like how contrasty it is too!

I really like this composition, it's really simple but works beautifully. I think you've maybe been a tad heavy on the HDR processing as the blacks are a bit grey and could do with being lowered. Apart from that it's a really nice image to look at.
