New Joiners - Landscapes #705

June 2023

The Sassolungo is an epic range and shooting it from this vantage point gives you a great view over towards the alps. I think you've included far too much sky if I'm honest, the mountains almost feel like an afterthought. I think if you cropped this from half way up and made it a letterbox style panoramic image it'd look a lot better!

I really love this, the raking light coming through the trees looks magical. I love the way the moss on the trees and rocks is catching the light and creating so many layers. I like the contrast between the 2 sides as well, a lovely shot and worthy winner!

This is just a feel good image, it makes me want to go out and go for a walk! I like the tiny splash of yellow in the middle, and the way the path leads you through the image. The sky looks good too, maybe the blues are a little strong and could be tones down but it still looks good!

A lovely woodland scene, I love the light coming through the canopy! It has made the very whites of the water blown out but it doesn't really matter all that much as the compromise to get that perfectly exposed would be at the detriment to the rest of the image.

I like this as it reminds me of being in Tuscany walking around all the old villages. The colours are nice and it's composed pretty well. The only thing that's a bit annoying is the street lamp, I think this could probably be cloned out to make the image stronger but it's just a case of whether you feel that's the right thing to do!

This is an epic view, what a treat for your eyes after a long stretch of walking! It's exposed nicely, composed well and the subject is fantastic. Loch Lomond is a wonderful area to be and with weather like that it'd be hard to beat!

I love seeing the northern lights, it's always an amazing spectacle! I think you've done a pretty good job here overall, the only issue I can see is that the focus looks to be off. It's very difficult to nail focus when it's dark like that!

I love views like this, they're always awe inspiring and make you want to travel there. This is nicely composed, there's plenty of interest all around and it doesn't feel unbalanced. The sky looks great with all the fluffy clouds and the mountains are pretty impressive!

I like the composition here, nice colours too. It's hard to tell on a small screen but I'd advise against using an aperture like f29 as you'll start to get distortion and softness in your images. something like f11 - f16 would have been perfect here!

What an awesome sunset, I like the way your son is in shadow it adds an element of mystery to the image. It's a bit grainy but I suspect this was taken on a phone so there's not really much you can do about it. What a nice memory of a great moment.

I really like how you've used the greenery and tree branch as a natural frame , it looks fantastic. When I saw thing I thought it was lake Garda as its got a very similar look. It's exposed well and has nice colours. I'd maybe crop a little off the right hand side just to remove the out of focus branch/leaf

This is a pretty epic view, I love the way the sunlight exaggerates the shape of the dune and creates that big contrast between light and shadow. I like the composition, the tree placement makes it feel nicely balanced. I'd maybe crop some of the sky off as there's a lot of blue but that's just my personal preference.

I like this, it's simple and easy to look at. The sunburst coming over the cliffs looks cool and although it's maybe a tad bright overall it works nicely. One big thing to keep an eye on with shots like this is the horizon, even if it's a couple of degrees off level it's really noticeable when shooting water!

I'm torn with this image!!! It's exposed beautifully and the colours are amazing but I feel the composition could have been stronger. The tree is good off to one side, but you've cut some of the branches off and it's very close to the edge of frame. I'd maybe have put it 1/3 into the photo and given it a bit more room above.

A nice simple shot that's a great example of how a small element can make or break a photo. Had the fisherman not been in this then I don't think it'd have worked at all, but luckily they were and you've got a pretty cool photo of it!
