This is a fabulous combination of conditions and composition. In the foreground we have a lone boat bobbing on the water and in the background there is a dramatic rain shower catching light from the low sun and revealing a glorious rainbow through the warm tones in the clouds.
The composition works really well and your decision to place the boat on one side of the frame and the storm on the other creates a sense of balance in the image. The red on the boat is reflected in the colour of the clouds and that repetition really elevates the image.
Your timing is great as the rainbow just makes the image sing, made even better by the fact that it’s a double rainbow.
A fabulous image and a worthy winner, thanks for sharing!
A magnificent snowy, wintery landscape that demonstrates everything I love about those winter months. There is a real feeling of cold when looking at this picture and an image that can put you in the frame and make you feel the elements definitely deserves special mention.
The composition works well, using the shoreline as a way into the image, leading the eye to the snowy hills on the far shoreline. The reflection in the still waters helps elevate the image further and the clouds in the blue sky add some much needed texture to the frame..
Nicely seen and captured, thanks for sharing.
A moody monochrome image that makes the most of the conditions. There isn’t a major focal point, instead the image is all about the contrast between dark and light. The shaft of light breaks through the cloud on the left of the frame and leads the eye through the rest of the image.
The left of the frame is bright and illuminated whereas the right of the frame is dark and foreboding. There is some interesting details such as the light catching in the rain.
An intriguing and moody image that demonstrates how light and dark can make an image work. Thanks for sharing.
It must have been quite a trek to get up to such a height, especially during such inclement weather. Snowdon has a powerful pull for photographers and your image is a great example of why. The landscape seemingly unfolds below with the various peaks and valleys covered in snow and shrouded in cloud and atmosphere.
The low cloud is dampening the sun, however the highlights remain blown out. That being said, shooting into the sun really adds to the feel of the image and shows the light catching on the peaks.
The composition is a little off due to the wall on the right of the frame and I wonder if the frame would be better balanced if that part was cropped out. That aside there is plenty to enjoy in the image and a reminder of the beautiful scenery we have in the UK, thank you for sharing.
Although this is simple scene, it has a really good feel to it and this is elevated by both your composition and the processing.
Shooting into the sun is a tricky skill because the sun is such a bright highlight and can take over the whole image, but you’ve managed to control the exposure to ensure the highlights are balanced.
The warm tones of the scene really stand out and I like that you’ve composed with the wave in such a way as to create a diagonal line in the foreground which contrasts with the straight horizon which in turn compliments the vertical line created by the low sun.
A really interesting seascape that leans into the mood and makes the most of the conditions. Well seen and processed, thanks for sharing.
Even though in the last few years I’ve been able to see the aurora from my back garden in the middle of England, something that I never thought would happen, I doubt I will ever get tired of seeing it. It is rather magnificent and to watch it dance in the sky is to peer into infinity.
Your image does a great job of showing off why it is an enduring wonder of the natural world and your composition works well. Using the pond to create a reflection of the aurora elevates it above the average aurora shot and the fact you captured this on a mobile device is even more impressive.
A good rendition of what must have been a magnificent show to witness with the naked eye. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for outlining your creative thought process behind this image in the description, it’s really interesting to read about the effort you put in to getting this image and the time you took to ensure it fitted your creative vision, showing off not just the temple but in the context of the surrounding landscape.
The gold detail of the temple fills the foreground and leads us into the rest of the frame. The colour of the temple is complimented by the warm tones in the clear sky above, both warm in tone and standing in contrast with green of the landscape below.
There is plenty of detail in the landscape which pulls in the eye and asks the viewer to look closer. It demonstrates the harmony that can exist between the manmade and natural world.
Really nicely seen, captured and processed. Thank you for sharing.
This is a wonderfully minimalist view that uses the elements in the frame to powerful effect.
There is just two contrasting elements, the sand dune and the sky. The dune is catching the light which creates a contrast between the light and dark parts of the sand. This stands in contrast to the clear blue sky above.
The processing has the appearance of cross processing which gives the image a somewhat surreal feel.
An interesting, abstract image that makes the most of the light and the subject matter, thanks for sharing.
An interesting seascape that is full of energy and dynamism. You haven’t left a description so I have to deduce your thought process and assume the time of day this was taken. I think it looks more like sunset to me but it could very well be sunrise.
The image benefits from some compositional choices you’ve made, such as taking the image from a low angle which means we’re almost at water level, watching the waves find their way onto the rocks. There is a sense of movement in the image where you’ve frozen time as the waves are hitting the rocks.
Shooting into the sun is always tricky and there are some blown highlights visible but that doesn’t really detract from the overall effect of the scene. The portrait orientation elevates the image and keeps the elements balanced.
A dynamic coastal shot that works well, thank you for sharing.
The effect of infrared can turn even a mundane and commonplace scene into something otherworldly and interesting. This is definitely something that is at play in this image as the infrared really changes the scenery into something from a fairytale. I’m particularly taken with the different colours of the foliage, from the pink of the grass to the white of the trees. All this is complimented by the deep colour of the sky with cirrus clouds cutting through the clear, empty blue.
The effect of the image is elevated by the composition. You use the road in the foreground to lead the eye into the main part of the image. All the elements in the frame are perfectly balanced and overall this is a fascinating and interesting take, demonstrating your ability to think outside of the box and engage creatively with familiar subject matter.
Well seen, captured and edited.

Here we have a lovely contrast of the warm tones created by low light and the wintery, cool, snowy hillside. The textures of the trees and rocks on the hillside shine through the layer of snow and the low cloud is catching the light, creating an impressive scene.
The still water is reflecting back the scenery and these kind of conditions are some of my favourite to shoot in. There is something right at the bottom of the frame that pulls the eye out of the image and I would recommend cropping that out to improve the impact of the frame.
Thanks for sharing.

I’m a big fan of urban landscapes and this is a wonderful example of why. During the blue hour, that time between sunset and certified darkness, cities and urban landscapes come to life. All the lights of the city start to shine and there is a lovely balance between the ambient and artificial light.
In this image the composition works well and you use all the elements in the frame to powerful effect. The various buildings are reflecting in the perfectly still water. This is a great example of when to break the rule of thirds and place the horizon in the middle.
I’m a big proponent of the best camera being the one you have on you and the fact you took this on your mobile device underlines this sentiment.
A really nice cityscape, thank you for sharing.
