I like what you're trying to do with this composition. On the right of the frame there is the wooden fence, catching the low light. On the left of the frame is the distant sight of the large container ship, making its way to shore.

What they have in common is the warm light, catching on both of them against that clear sky. The difference in texture is palpable, from the wooden fence, to the reeds in the middle of the frame and the ship in the distance.

Not a photo I would think to take myself, which certainly makes me want to celebrate your creative vision, thanks for sharing.

This is one of the most famous compositions in Scotland, and for good reason. Made famous by the Harry Potter films, there is plenty to enjoy here without the context of the film.

Your composition works well, and you managed to bag yourself a good spot, high above the viaduct so we can see the whole thing, as well as the mountains in the background, with a dusting of snow on the tops.

I also like that this was shot on a mobile device which demonstrates that the best camera is the one that you have on you, thank you for sharing.

I really like the composition you've employed in this image. On the right of the frame is the shapely and intriguing stairway, jutting out into the water. You use this as a way into the image and it works wonderfully well.

The long exposure also works well, elongating the shutter speed and smoothing out the water. There is a hint of light on the stairs and the cloudless sky contains the gradients of either end of the day.

Alas, I would have liked to see your photo in hi-res and unfortunately the image you've uploaded is a low-res version so we lose some of the detail and therefore some of the impact

That aside, there is plenty to enjoy and this is an image that has been well seen, captured and edited.

This is a moody and intriguing monochrome image that makes the most of the scenery and exploits the elements in the frame to powerful effect.

There is a contrast here between the land and the sky. In the field there are inbuilt curves in the landscape, winding their way through the field, catching the strong light that has broken through the cloud.

Above, copious amounts of cumulous clouds sit low in the sky, full of texture and interest. The black and white conversion ensures we're not distracted by any bold colours and the image is full of interesting textures.

Overall, an intriguing and provocative shot that demonstrates your compositional prowess. Thank you for sharing.

This image has a really nice mood to it, with the blue tones overwhelming the image and enhancing the notion of blue hour and demonstrating the beauty that can be found after sunset.

I really like the composition that you've gone with, placing the camera at a low angle so it gives the feeling of the viewer being amongst the rocks looking out to sea. The long exposure has elongated the shutter speed enough to add some movement and narrative to the scene.

Nicely seen, captured and processed, thank you for sharing!

This is a fabulous scene that benefits from your elevated position. From where you're standing, it feels as though we're above proceedings and the landscape rolls out before us. The turquoise waters of the lagoon lead to the variety of facades, all in different colours, lining the streets of the coastal town.

That continental light is glorious, catching on the buildings and bringing out the bold colours, Behind, is the sea, disappearing towards the horizon.

There is a lot to enjoy here, from the light to the detail and the colour. The only suggestion I would have is to straighten the horizon at the top of the frame as this would elevate the image further.

That aside, plenty to like and thank you for sharing.

Woodland photography is probably one of the hardest disciplines to master under the umbrella of landscape photography. As the photographer, your job is to make sense of the chaos, which can be really tricky when there are a lot of trees.

You've done a good job of making sense of the chaos in this particular image, pushing our attention towards the tree in the middle of the frame which is illuminated by the light. The darker trees at the front of the frame have a foreboding feel to them, which balances out the light in the middle and helps to highlight that one tree.

I like the warm tones that you've brought out through your editing choices and the portrait orientation helps to ensure our attention remains on the most important elements in the frame. Thank you for sharing.

This is an interesting image that makes a direct comparison between the natural and manmade elements in the frame.

The boats in the foreground contrast powerfully with the rock formations in the background, dwarfing them in size. Above, a big threatening sky covers much of the frame and the light that is catching on the landscape is impressive and dramatic.

The composition is mostly good, although I would crop out the top of the boat right at the bottom of the frame as it pulls the eye out of the frame. Other than that, there is plenty to like here, thank you for sharing.

This is a beautiful high contrast black and white that makes the most of the conditions and demonstrates your compositional awareness.

The portrait orientation works well, with the hut and the trees positioned at the bottom of the frame. The snow helps to isolate the rest of the elements in the frame and ensure that the darker parts of the photo, namely the trees and the building, stand out in opposition.

The hi-key editing elevates the composition and the use of negative space throughout the top of the frame gives the rest of the image room to breathe. The monochrome conversion works well and suits the composition.

A worthy winner, thank you for sharing.

Drone photography allows us to see the world from a different perspective.

I'm assuming you've used a drone for this shot, but because you haven't provided any information, not even a title, forgive me for taking a guess at your creative thinking.

I enjoyed the interesting juxtaposition between the grey of the concrete and the yellow of the foliage at the side of the road. The manmade elements give context to the natural aspects and the linear, conformity of the road stands in opposition to the natural world.

Nicely seen and captured, but it would have been great to see a little more context next time but otherwise, thanks for sharing.

Drone photography provides a way to see the world from a different perspective and this is a lovely example of this. I've seen plenty of images of Mont St-Michel from eye level, so it's nice to see it in the context of the surrounding landscape.

You've chosen a lovely time of day to shoot, with that low light creeping through the clouds and illuminating the landscape in the distance. I like the contrast between the blue tones of the foreground and the warm tones in the sky.

There is some noise in the image which is likely due to the lack of light, but there is plenty to enjoy here, especially the context of the tidal estuaries criss crossing the landscape.

Great shot of a beautiful landmark, thank you for sharing.

Sometimes nature helps you out and places a curve in the landscape which in turn leads the eye through the image. This is one of those photos and you make the most of that bend in the river that pulls in the viewer and sends them from the front to the back of the frame.

The colours are bold and you've done well to wrangle with the strong, midday light. There is a blue colour cast, but that is countered by the warm tones in the grass and on the hillside.

Some of the highlights in the clouds are blown out but the beauty of the scene is still evident and the reflection in the water really brings the scene to life.

Thanks for sharing.

Some images are all about the composition, some images are all about the light, and others, such as this one, is all about the light and the mood combining.

Sunsets are a universal experience. We understand and feel the end of the day as a collective and images of a particularly spectacular sunset have a broad appeal. The one you've captured here definitely falls into that category. You give over most of the frame to the sky, with the clouds fanning out across the blue and the low sun sitting close to the horizon.

Sometimes it's the details that makes an image work, and here it's the lone bird flying through the middle of the frame.

Nicely seen, captured and processed.

Meet the expert judge

I love an urban landscape and this one really works well. In the distance there is the city buildings, hazy due to the pollution and particles that one finds in the city. The framing works really well, with the bus in the foreground pulling in the eye and allowing it to start at the bus before exploring the rest of the frame.

You've made sure everything in the frame has its own place and works well together, from the bus to the buildings. This is helped by the portrait orientation that keeps our attention in the right place.

Nicely seen and captured, thank you for sharing.

This image is all about the textures in the frame. There is the texture in the waves that are crashing on the beach, one after the other, with the lines in the water acting as leading lines through the image. There is the hint of some mist or fog on the shoreline in the top of the frame and this adds some mystery to the proceedings.

This is also another great example of the best camera being the one you have on you, using your mobile device to capture the scenery. I like the portrait orientation and the way the lines of the waves lead in the eye. Nicely seen and captured.
