I love minimal black and white images like this. They are great for overcast days where there is little in the way of light and dynamic range and it opens up a door to interesting creativity.
Here, you've gone for the classical foreground of a rock in shallow water which adds something interesting to the image and compliments the highlights of the water and the sky.
You've given over a lot of the frame to the blown out sky which makes me wonder if this might have looked better with a tighter crop but I can understand the creative choice to leave it.
The monochrome conversion really suits the frame and overall this is well seen, shot and edited, thanks for sharing!
I really like this image. The lighting is gorgeous and the yellows of the foreground complement the blue of the sky and the water. The clouds in the sky add some lovely texture and the depth of field works well to pull the eye into the heart of the image.
This absolutely would have been in the top ten but for one reason -- the horizon is wonky and that throws off the entire image. This could easily be corrected in post to make your already powerful image even more impressive.
Thanks for sharing!
This is another great example of when to exclude the sky from a landscape image. Here we're looking down into the canyon and we're able to gauge the sheer scale of it without including the sky which could have distracted the eye and pulled us out of the frame.
Instead we're taken on a journey exploring the sides of the canyon, through different coloured rocks to trees somehow growing out of the rock bed. At the bottom of the frame is the water rushing through and it looks small in comparison to the surrounding landscape.
An intriguing image that demonstrates your willingness to think outside of the box and ay attention to the smaller, less obvious details. Thanks for sharing!
This is a compelling monochrome image that uses all the elements in the frame, and the intensity of the light, to powerful effect.
I like that you've used the pathway as a way into the frame, and that the curve of the path is mirrored by some of the high cloud above. The light is low enough to catch on some of the grasses, as well as the harbour wall in the distance.
The monochrome conversion means we're not distracted by the colours and all in all this works well, thanks for sharing.
I love a snowy scene because I adore winter and it's not often we get snow like this in the UK so it's always good to see interesting renditions of snowy landscapes from other people.
I like how you have combined the residential (urban dwellings) with the wildness of the mountains in the distance. Displaying this all in a single frame explored the tension between human and nature.
Your framing works well, catching the light on the mountain top in the distance and highlighting both sides of the image with those red lamps on the decking. They also add a much needed pop of colour.
Nicely framed and captured, thanks for sharing.
Godrevy lighthouse is like a magnet to landscape and seascape photographers and this image is a lovely example of why that is. Not only is it positioned on one of the UK's loveliest coastlines but it just has this majestic quality to it.
Often we see images of it during stormy weather so it's nice to see one on a relatively calm day. I like that you've used the pink thrift in the foreground as it compliments the greens and gives the image something extra.
A pleasant image the demonstrates your compositional knowledge and shows off the location, thanks for sharing.
This is a great example of when to use a telephoto lens for landscape photography. It allows you to push into the heart of the composition and really single in on the elements that work.
Here we have this wonderful row of trees in the foreground that are catching the delicious side light. Technically there are six trees but it's the five bigger trees that really stand out, in various stages of bloom. The odd number makes for a satisfying composition, although I rather like the little tree.
In the background the light is catching on the rolling hills, creating contrast and interest. I like that you've excluded the sky so we can concentrate just on what is happening in the landscape.
A really nice landscape image, thank you for sharing.
I love mornings like this, they are my absolute favourite. I love that just looking at this image means I can smell the fresh morning air and hear all the sounds of nature.
Other than capturing the image during some magical conditions, you've always done well with the composition. I like the three trees in the middle that stack backwards and are silhouetted against the misty conditions in the distance.
You've done well to manage the brightness of the rising sun, controlling it by placing it behind some of the branches of the tree at the front of the frame. This means we're treated to a lovely sunstar (and a little bit of annoying lens flare).
Overall, nicely seen and captured, thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love this image. It has so much of what I really love about landscape photography. First there is the landscape itself, with all the fresh greens of spring (or late summer, but I'm more inclined to think this was shot in spring). Then there is the conditions, with the low sidelight flooding the scene and catching on the trees and foliage.
You've been lucky to catch it on such a still morning so we're treated to those gorgeous reflections and including the island in the middle of the loch really ties together the composition.
Another good decision you've made is to exclude the sky which focuses our attention onto the loch and the island in the middle.
This is a fabulous image and a deserved winner, congratulations!

You've used all the elements in the frame to powerful effect. I like that the rocks in the foreground lead the eye through the image to the water in the background. The image is helped by the texture in the clouds and the colours of the water and sky complementing the grey tones of the rock.
Unfortunately the horizon is not quite straight and that throws the whole image off. This could be easily resolved in post to make the image even more powerful.
That aside, there is plenty to enjoy here, thanks for sharing.
There is plenty to enjoy in this image, from the moody, overcast conditions that really add to the atmosphere, to the bold colours of the flowers in the foreground and the green rolling hills in the distance.
You've done a good job of showing off this bit of countryside, and I like that you've chosen a portrait composition to keep our attention focussed on the flowers and the undulating hills in the distance.
Nicely seen, captured and processed, thanks for sharing.
This is a dramatic monochrome image that uses all the elements in the frame to powerful effect.
Wind turbines are brilliant subject matter for photography as they always have three blades and often come in sets, especially on the coastline so you can shoot multiple at a time, like in this image. I like that you've positioned yourself so the turbines are stacking backwards into the distance. I like that the colours are seemingly inverted and the turbines are dark in tone.
The threatening clouds above really add to the drama of the whole scene, and the streak of white through the middle is really fun and intriguing. This is one of those images that makes me want to look closer. Thanks for sharing.
Although brief, the time in which the blossom arrives is such a lovely period. With it comes the promise of spring (as well as a healthy dose of hayfever).
You've captured the beauty of early spring in this image, with the tulips adding some interest to the bottom of the frame and the blossom abundant though out. All of this is against a blue sky with just a hint of hight cloud adding some texture.
The portrait orientation works well and holds the eye, even though the light is a little flat. There is plenty to enjoy here, thanks for sharing.
I like the way you compare the starkness of the landscape you were encountering to the simplicity of a monochrome conversion which in effect can strip an image down to its basic elements, such as highlights and shadows.
The composition is a little off - I like that you've bookended both sides of the frame with trees which pushed our attention to the middle, but it is a shame that you haven't included the full trees, as it makes the frame feel a little uncomfortable. Also, there is a cormorant at the top of the tree on the left and that detail is easily overlooked due to the placement of the tree.
That aside, I love that we have lots of trees in the distance, all rising out the water. The details of the boat helps, and gives the image context and I like that there are some clouds in the sky providing texture. The monochrome conversion feels hi-key and all in all this is a lovely piece of storytelling. Thank you for sharing.
Some landscapes are all about the big vistas and some are much more about the detail in the landscape and using that as a compositional tool to show off a wider scene. This image falls into the latter category and it's a wonderful example of detailed, shallow-depth-of-field photography that uses the elements in the frame in an interesting way.
I love the vibrant pink flowers that dominate much of the frame and how they lead the eye from the front to the back, with buildings and mountains off I'm the distance. I see that you shot this on the Fuji 35mm 1.4 which is one of my favourite lenses of all time, and this image is a lovely demonstration of why that is. The quality of the lens is just lovely.
Even though you're shooting wide open, the highlights aren't blown out and everything sits well in the frame.
An image that has a magical quality to it, thank you for sharing!
