New Joiners - Landscapes #899

September 2025

A great shot of the colours and landscape of Yellowstone. The rusty red curves in the mud lead the eye in from the bottom of the frame into the steaming azure water. While the image works well as a wide angle shot, you could try a slightly tighter crop towards the centre of the image to balance out the features even more. Great work!

How could anyone not take a photo when presented with gorgeous conditions like this? Wonderful warm light bathing autumn colours, all reflected in still mirror finish water. I would love to see a higher resolution image in future contests to explore more of the details on the shore. Well done!

A great choice of subject matter for this black and white photo. A visually striking building with a narrow weathered profile and dark gaping maw of an entrance. While including the extra details of the cemetery on the right and statue on the left does help set the scene, everything comes back to the church and the tower. and symmetrical vertical crop would work really well too, one that just cuts out the bin! Wonderful exposure and crisp details throughout!

You done a fantastic job capturing the Milky Way here. The exposure level throughout the image is well balanced. It might just be the quality of file uploaded, but the scene does seem to be a little out of focus. An easy fix for future contests just to make sure even a down scaled amount of pixels still looks sharp enough to the viewer. Only a minor point though on a wonderful photo!

A very majestic landscape photo! The lighting and exposure on the iconic peaks of Patagonia instantly catches the viewers attention. The scale is then set by the little spot of contrast that draws the eye down to the car on the road. A really great exposure and well composed image. Well done!

A doubly beautiful natural landscape scene. The clouds and the trees present a revitalising view, and are then reflected in the calm still waters of the river. The exposure level is just bright enough to give the clouds detail and a glare like glow. A little bit of detail with lily pads in the river help to add extra interest in the foreground. Wonderful shot!

A fascinating dreamlike scene. The colours and ethereal glow immediately make the viewer question the reality of what they are seeing. The slightly cartoonish shape of the main structure add to this conundrum. I find myself looking for a familiar sense of scale, and finding a little park bench, which helps bring back the reality. Only then to see the strange not quite windows on the roof and the line of what looks like bricks at the bottom of the building and my mind is confused again! This is a captivating image with a processing style that matches the scene really well. The out of focus bush in the foreground also gives the main scene a hidden mystery feel to it. Good work!

A wonderful relaxing tropical view. The silhouettes of the palm trees and hammock are all you need to describe an idyllic scene. The warm rising sun glistening on the gently lapping waves intensifies the relaxing nature of the photo. A wonderful travel scene with "wish you were here" vibes.

You've captured a wonderful moment between father and son. The composition, exposure and colours all work well together. The timing is spot on and the emotion in the faces definitely stands out. The only thing I'd like to mention is the genre of photo and the brief. While the photo does have a landscape in it, it still falls more in to the "people" category. It would be great to see this in future contests, but be mindful that it may not get the level of award that fits the quality of photo if it doesn't meet the required brief. Still a great shot that father and son would be proud of!

A well composed and exposed photo of the Dolomites. The broad expanse of the landscape is in proportion to the view of the main peaks. The green and blue work well together as the typical Earth landscape colours. There seems to plenty of detail in the image which I'd love to explore in future contests with a higher resolution image. The smaller the size, the harder it is for judges to appreciate all the photo. Otherwise great work!

A lovely macro landscape photo. The colours and cool tones give the image a quiet serene feel. The little glistening drops of water sparkle against the deep green clover. The delicate nature of the clover and the drops add to the gentleness of the photo. A wonderful close up view of the beauty around us.

Double rainbow and lightning? For most photographers that is a capture they could only dream of! I love the warm light that blankets this rural scene and the how the rainbows seem to be holding back the storm and lightning in the right of frame. Well done capturing this amazing scene!

A well composed symmetrical shot with diminishing perspective and leading lines drawing the viewers eye into the scene. Not only into the photo, but directing the eye to the dark ghostly figures created by the long exposure. A nice little detail that can make all the difference for a photo like this. The only minor thing I'd point out from looking over this image, is the slightly distracting graffiti in the top right. A easy thing to fix in post if you choose to do so. Still a great shot!

I like how this image could be presented upside down and it would seem just like a photo of the building through the trees. The building itself has a weathered character worthy of photographing, and this perspective works well. The small portion of wall at the very top provides a refuge for the mind to realign its senses. The framing of the green vegetation contrasts splendidly with the red brick. Great work!

I like seeing simple compositions and scenes done well. No imposing mountains in the distance, no city skyline. Nothing that really says what the photo is about, except the entire photo itself. A beautiful and calm lakeside view with a bright blue sky. The kind of view you could sit and enjoy without distraction. The composition and colours works well here too.
