A wonderful display of colour and light. The warm orange hues on the mountains and clouds contrast well against the deep forest greens and the cooler mountain shadows. The photo is well exposed to highlight the beautiful sunlight on the mountain while still having details in the shadows. A classic mountain and lake scene executed professionally.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Landscapes’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Animals’.
You've composed the scene in such a way as to make the rocks appear like a sculpture in the sea. The beautiful sunset colours and clouds provide a suitable lighting for the structures. The subtle long exposure creates a hint of movement while retaining the rippled reflections on the sand. Good work!
A gorgeous shimmering photo. The slight rippling in the water gives the reflection a metallic shine. I like the way the pier jutting out adds a depth to the image, while simultaneously provides a diminishing perspective leading line towards the old building in the background. Even the little pops of red on the doors are a nice contrast to the overall cooler tone of the harbour. Great exposure and plenty of details!
You've done well to use black and white photography to draw even more attention to the texture and curves of the rocks here. The dark pool of water in the foreground almost gives the impression that the rock is elevated off the ground there. There is plenty of contrast and detail throughout the image. Well done!
A wonderful, almost abstract, photo that also has the feel of an oil impressionist painting. The splash of red poppies stand out vibrantly against the field of green. The distant trees and blue sky provide a gentle background that doesn't distract from the main element. I feel like this image could also work as a complete abstract by cropping out the top third entirely, leaving just the poppy field.
Very well composed and exposed. The sunlit river provides a good leading line into the frame. The rust coloured trees scale the image and contrast against the cooler blue shadows of the mountains and the sky. I can almost picture myself walking on the little path by the river. A tremendous photo for a tremendous view!
Winter landscapes on their own take on an almost fairy tale sense to them. Providing a lone animal trying to eat the frosty patches of dead looking grass bring the tone of the image back to the harsh reality of life in these conditions. You've managed to make the bison stand out against the colourless cold scene, while simultaneously making it blend into the environment it is suited for. I also like the little glimpses of distant trees through the misty air. You have a good eye for capturing the essence of the landscape. Well done!
While I'm normally an advocate for removing excess empty sky, I believe it works well in this image due to the colour and light gradient that keeps pushing the viewers eye back down into the frame, similarly to how a dark band of clouds would. The texture on the wet rocks with their glossy highlights are definitely the star of the show. Complimented nicely with the smoky long exposure water. The small dark island does a great job of anchoring the centre of the frame. Well done!
A wonderfully layered image that places the viewer in the scene. The highlights on the mountain are the first to draw the attention of the eye, then the contrast of the fern against the brighter water brings the viewer back to the vantage point. Lots of details and layers play across the scene providing much to explore.
A magical scene unfolds amongst the jumble of weathered rocks and concrete breakwater. The rays of light do a great job of focusing the attention on the main subject of the fisherman. I like the use of open expansive landscape to give a sense of place. I do feel like you could crop the image in a little bit more from the top left to draw even more attention to the main scene, without taking away the effect of an open ocean view. Well timed and taken photo!
A classic shot executed wonderfully. When shooting a popular location like this it can be difficult to produce something that stands out on it's own merit. This well balanced composition and striking earthy red landscape stands out even more against the deep blue band on the horizon. The splash of clouds almost appear to be reflecting the ground below rather than refracting the sunlight. Great work!

A lovely seaside view, with vibrant water and sky, and muted colourful buildings. The curve of the water line leads the viewers eye along the coast and into the scene. This shape is almost mirrored in the sky with the patch of blue sky being similar to the patch of blue water. A wonderful coincidence of natural events. My only suggestion to improve the photo is to straighten the horizon line as the scene is tilting down to the left. An easy fix for a good photo!
A really good use of black and white photography. Although the overall feel of the image is of a mid grey, the depth of contrast from bright highlights to deep shadows is all throughout the mountain. The snow is a gleaming white and still retains its details. The peppering of trees is the only thing that gives a sense of immense scale, yet the peaks still feel close enough to touch. The only minor point I have to make is regarding the sensor dust visible in the sky, with such a well presented image, the little things can stand out more. Still an excellent and professional looking photo.
Everything in the photo pulls the eye in and down to the lower left. The line of the path, the angle of the mountain, and the line of the buildings. And what we find there is a small group of people that appear to be returning from a hike. Normally I'd say having so much pushing the eye towards one side of the frame wouldn't work, but here the gaze seems to contract towards the people, then expand back to the mountain scene freely. It just works! Well done!
