New Joiners - Landscapes #950

March 2026

The beautiful gradient in the evening sky compliments the white Greek island buildings nicely. The human element of the people sitting at a restaurant and enjoying the view adds to the overall story of the image. Even the stylish yacht dwarfed by the sea adds interest the to background. My one suggestion to improve the professionalism of the photo would be to remove the sensor dust spots, especially from the sky. An easy fix in most editing software and can make a huge difference. Great work!

An interesting tale of two trees. The trees do a great job of anchoring the composition as well as providing a story element to the scene. The stark contrast in the condition of the two while occupying relatively the same position by the lake evokes questions from the viewer of how this came to pass. Was it a single event, or something drawn out? A story none-the-less that played out amongst the breath-taking landscape of Nepal.

An interesting perspective of the sunset with the kayakers appearing to float in an upside down sky. The calm surface of the lake combined with the still kayaks create a quietness to the image. The higher perspective of the photographer helps to extend the distance between the people and the sunset, making it appear more like the sky putting on a show just for them.

A lovely view of the cultivated hills and distant mountains. The hazy atmosphere creates a glare that pushes the eye away from the sky and back towards the town on the hill. The flowing curves of the rice paddies also guide the eye down through the valley. A well composed and taken photo!

A well composed and captivating image that does a great job at describing the landscape. The large looing mountain and think covering of snow and ice backdrop this strange little scene in the foreground. A weathered building with bright red contrasting doors surrounded by hundreds of penguins. While the natural landscape seems unique and strange to most of the people viewing it, its the human element of a building that would see, unique and strange to the penguins.

A gorgeous view over the mountains with mists and clouds flowing the in the sheltered valleys. The image provides a strange disconnect between the awe inspiring forest covering the lands towards the distant horizon, and the immediate desolation of the trees and barren hillside in the foreground. A strange thought of, without the removal of the trees, the appreciative view might not be possible.

Fiery highlights and deep blue shadows. A gorgeous seascape sunset view with what at first glance appears to be a bird soaring through the sky. A closer inspection reveals a tiny human figure soaring across the windswept water with their kite pulling them along. Wonderful light and texture, well done!

There is an enigmatic atmosphere emanating throughout the forest. The beaming light of the sun seems to pierce right through to the viewer, but gently flow through the rest of the scene. There's an almost monochromatic nature to the photo while still delivering golden and earthy tones.

I great use of the sunglasses as a filter that matches the subject matter. While the viewer can see the more natural look of the desert, the view through the lens looks more like a movie representation of a desolate landscape. Very creative!

The light and landscape look tremendous in this photo. There is so much detail and depth with interesting features wherever you look. The buildings blend in with the landscape so well it would be easy to miss some of them. I find myself zooming in to explore all the little stories going on. The distant valley and light could be an amazing photo on its own too. Now I'm normally one to tell people to straighten their horizon lines, but in this instance it almost adds to the dynamic nature of the shot. Great work!

A great representation of the location, describing both the landscape and the human relationship with it. The imposing cloud shrouded mountains set the backdrop for the industry created beneath them. Cranes and silos suggest progress and growth, while the gas station and row of sea planes give a sense of transportation and movement throughout the land.

You've created a mood with just about every aspect of this photo. There is an isolation presented by the off centre quaint cottage and it's size relative to the frame. The low lying clouds suggest a sombre tone, as does the darker level of exposure. The colour palette works well too with the greens and yellows of the landscape helping to draw attention to the deep red-brown of the building.

The light on the façade of the wooden building is amazing. It appears to reflect the light like polished metal. The pair of matching buildings seem to mirror each other while contrasting with light and dark at the same time. With so much going on in the centre of the image, I feel the frame would benefit from a square crop as well.

A well composed scene with wonderful golden sunset light. The conical buildings frame the distant view and reflected light, while commanding the attention of the viewer themselves. The softly lit path on the left provides a subtle leading line that keeps the eye from drifting away. While the sky is detailed and interesting, a square crop that removes about half the sky might suit the subject matter more.

I really like the feel of this image and the mix of tranquillity and fiery dynamic sky. There are a couple of simple things that could really elevate the impact of this image to the viewer. First is a slight straightening of the horizon line as it is sloping down to the right. The second is a tighter crop to remove some of the overly dark regions. By cropping from the left and keeping the horizon and end of the shore line centred. You'll still have the impact of the wonderful sky and reflection, but keep the viewers attention longer. Well done!
