New Joiners - Landscapes #958

April 2026

A great urban landscape scene with wonderful colour and tones. The yellow taxi is as a good as a movie location title, card or establishing shot. The people in the shot have personality and character to them, as do the trucks on the sides of the road. There is a good mix of mostly neutral colours and darker blues that compliment the vivid yellow taxi. Well done!

Good light and composition go a long way in photography, and this shot is a great example of both. While a natural scene of trees and hills is nice to look at, there's nothing immediately iconic or stand out in terms of scenery here. But the way the human figure is set in their own little frame within the scene instantly draws the viewer in, and makes this seemingly nondescript landscape a magical golden sunlit dreamscape. It's little scenes like this that should be appreciated every day for the beauty and wonder they can produce. Great work!

I love the depth and texture in this scene. You can almost reach out and run your hands across the surface of that landscape and feel all the details. You've also managed to give a sense of distance between the peak of the mountain and the sun lit clouds. All those natural leading lines draw the eye into and up to the summit. Very well done to have captured the challenging lighting conditions in one exposure!

A wonderful panorama with lots to explore. There is plenty of interesting light in the left of the frame with the low lying clouds and beams of sunlight. The ducks add some interest in the water, including the lone bird making its own trail off to the right. A lovely scene with good details and exposure.

Shooting into the sun with so much of the scene in shadow can be quite difficult. You've done a great job here creating a realistic glare to the sun without burning out the sky, as well as keeping plenty of details in the mountains. The highlights touching the key features of the building, path, and foreground rocks is a fine addition to the photo. A beautiful moment captured exceptionally.

A classic composition of this iconic location. What makes this image stand out is that phenomenal gradient in the sky behind the rocks. It's a wonderful compliment to the deep earthy red of the landscape. My only recommendation would be to crop out at least half of the sky and about 5% off the right of the image. This will still give the viewer everything they need with a more balanced image.

A well composed scene with gorgeous morning light. The low angled light creates contrast and texture over the grassy field, revealing leading lines that draw the eye towards the distant feature of the aqueduct. The sun is well centred in the frame and keeps the eyes returning inward after exploring the trees to the left and right of the shot.

A epic view of the landscape of Lofoten. The reds of the buildings and the blue of the water work well with the jagged snow covered mountains in the background. The overall image feels well balanced in visual elements and exposure level. Well done!

A well crafted composition that describes the landscape at both the micro and macro level. The foreground shows off the details and shapes of the rocks scattered around the hills, as well as the green-brown grasses. This is all backdropped by the greater landscape of rugged and bleak terrain. The dark sky holds the top of the frame and a glimpse of water keeps the attention coming back to the centre. Great work!

A great view of Hong Kong at night. You've done a great job to manage the challenging lighting conditions with plenty of colour detail and minimal blown out highlights. It's good to see a little bit of colour and light in the sky, as shooting too late in the evening results in a completely dark and uninteresting sky. The play of colours on the water and the texture it creates is a stand out feature. Well done!

Such beautiful light draped over amazing scenery. The trees on the left and right frame the coastal view well, and keep the eye exploring the photo. While the trees make this a fascinating image to look at as they are literally living life on the edge, it's the human figure that gives it something more. Perfectly positioned to contrast against the brightest part of the shot, it immediately catches the viewers attention and adds a sense of scale to the scene. Well done! One very minor suggestion is to be careful when cropping an image as you've ended up with a line of white pixels at the bottom. A simple fix but could be a negative look in future contests.

A wonderfully exposed scene with a misty atmosphere scattering the light. The main point of interest in the foreground of the trees on the rocky cliff is repeated in the distance, like the same scene continuing on and on. The turbulent water crashing against the rocks and cascading in superb detail adds a sense of motion and sound to the photo. There are plenty of details throughout the highlights and shadows in this high dynamic range scene. Good work!

A simple urban parkland view that does well as a photograph because of its composition and colours. The details of the trees take up most of the image and would almost do well on their own as an abstract photo if cropped. The path at the bottom leads the eye in and towards the interesting brick buildings of Hampton Court Palace. It takes a good eye to balance the scene and capture a location in a visually pleasing way. Well done!

That orange light mixed with those deep dark blues work so well together! The sun lit peak immediately captures the viewers attention. Exploring the rest of the scene reveals layers of hills creating depth to the image. Even the tree in the foreground helps to accentuate the colour of the hills and mountains by adding a deeper shadow to compare it to. Nice work!
