Great use of depth of field and colour here. I think to be a successful portrait it would be helpful to see one of the subjects in sharp focus. With that shallow DOF it would look great with all the other figures blurred as they are. Looks like a brilliant place to shoot!

It's a good shot, you've done well to balance the flash with the ambient light especially as you were holding the flash in one hand and the camera in the other. Good moment you've captured and well completed with the black and white treatment.

This is an interesting pose and the location works really well. It would be great to see a little more detail in the person, especially the face. The light coming over her left shoulder and on her hair is lovely. You could try reflecting light back in to your subject or try lifting the shadows in software like Lightroom. The composition is great.

The dappled light on the bowl and hands is lovely and the warm tones the sun has created gives the image a wonderful colour palette. I can't quite make out what the lady is making, breads of some description perhaps but the image successfully places us in the scene.

Really good strong black and white shot with terrific contrast. I'd love to see the person coming down the slope so we get a sense of who they are, it would make a stronger 'portrait' although this is a strong scene.

Good tones in the image and impressed you say with basic home equipment, It's often possible to achieve good pics with what you have at hand. and this is a good example The right side of your face is exposed really well, I might try a little extra bounce (piece of white card or similar) to just try and put a little more detail in your left side so it doesn't get lost in the black background. Good self portrait.

This could be a still taken from a film. It's a great scene, with the car at the right side leaving the frame and the woman crossing the road and going the other direction. It has a friction to it. . I'm also intrigued by the full van in the background. You've chosen a great crop and the colours are wonderful, really soft sky.

Good fun self portrait. It's technically very successful with the open flash technique and the well exposed highlights keeping the detail.

Well executed image with the idea you've carried through of the 20's. Its a little harsh in the highlights on the right side which reduces the detail a little but overall it doesn't detract too much. A little trick would be to place a piece of diffusion material, a thin sheet or similar near the light source so it softens a bit retaining the detail.

Brilliantly executed photograph. The strong gaze and expression of the girl draws you in to the dreamy story. The colour treatment is very subtle with the skin tones working well against the sky and the grasses. Have a look at Robert ParkeHarrison - The Architects Brother, if you don't know it already.... Well done, great work.

I'm intrigued by both the people in the shot and equally by that amazing looking location and landscape. I can't help but wish you'd shot them from the front to reveal more about them both, I think you would make a stronger portrait perhaps having them next to one another in that great open space!

This caught my eye and I think what drew me to it is the composition and the placement of the man along with his stern look. I love it. Great use of depth of field and interesting colour palette to finish the image off. It tells the story in a single shot.
