Excellent use of mixed lighting in this atmospheric portrait. It's not easy to control lighting in this way. The bluish background light which appears to be natural light from a window helps create depth and content which complements the warmer sidelight on the subject.

There is a fun and lively sense of energy in the mood of this scene. The choice of camera angle, and point of view create a positive empathy with the subjects. The trio of characters makes a strong composition and the processing has been well handled.

Drama, excitement and energy abound in this dynamic and powerful portrait. Shooting into the light (contre jour) has many technical challenges which the photographer has done well to overcome. The lighting on the subject emphasises this drama while the posing is pitch-perfect.

A strong sense of theatre, drama and narrative is evident in this interesting tableaux. Clever use of coloured gels in the lighting has added to the atmosphere. There are some nice ideas at play in the setup that are thought-provoking.

A wonderfully vibrant and sumptuous portrait. The fabric works well as a composition device and adds to the ethereal vibe of the image. The eye contact and expression of the subject is powerful and engaging. Converting to black and white adds to the mood.

This is an excellent 'protest' shot. The photographer has done well finding the right angle and getting in position during a protest - which isn't easy. In the tradition of 'protest images and the classic documentary style, the mono treatment works well.

The crisp, clean lines of the composition, the harsh light and strong contrast, work really well. The dynamic use of colour, (especially been yellow and blue ) creates an interesting tension resulting in a strong and powerful image packed with energy.

This excellent character study demonstrates a good understanding and control of light and is packed with atmosphere. There is just enough detail in the darker areas of the image while the light on the subject's face and accordion artfully highlight the points of interest.

There is a wonderful sense of scale in this landscape. The human element in the foreground not only adds a sense of scale but also speaks to 'our relationship with nature,. The treatment of the image has a lovely nostalgic charm.

Using the reflective glass to add layers and depth to this image was an inspired choice. There are echoes of the American street photographer Vivian Maier who also frequently used windows and reflections in her work. Converting to black and white helps emphasise the format and structure of the picture. Good work!

A powerful and engaging portrait. The direct eye contact, close proximity to the subject and central framing all add to this power. The use of a wide aperture has created a shallow depth of field, blurring the background and creating a great sense of depth.

The triptych style arrangement used to create this portrait study is original and creative. Challenging the conventions of framing is bold and daring, but works really well in this instance and has paid off. The fragmented style artfully alludes to a dreamlike snippet of the subject's character.

There's visceral energy to this portriat. The use of a slow shutter speed and flash has emphasised the movement while the central positioning of the subject on the composition. The subject's eyes and body posture add an element of mystery, intrigue and fun.
