There is a wonderful, dynamic and natural energy to this portrait. The shallow depth of field creates a lovely background that still reveals the spikiness of the palm leaves without making them too much of a distraction from the subject. The natural colour palette works a treat.

Blink and you might miss the human presence in this landscape., but look closely and you'll see the ice climbers clinging to the wall of ice in the distance. The figures add a wonderful sense of scale and point of interest, but above all, they speak to our relationship with nature in a subtle but poignant way.

Excellent choice of a low camera angle to emphasise the determination and presence of the subject. The central position works especially well with the horizon line low down in the frame. Converting to black and white was a good choice and the tones have been handled well.

The artful use of reflections in this multilayered image has worked well. The slight movement in the subject adds to the narrative giving the portrait a dream-like vibe, while the black and white conversion and handling of tones have been excellently handled.

The vibe of a 50s diner is coming through in this lovely, quiet and contemplative portrait. The striking red and yellow in the foreground set the scene and create a good anchor for the image while the green/cyan tint adds a sense of nostalgia.

Sometimes, it's the simplest things that make an engaging portrait such as the capturing of an expression. The sheer happiness that appears to be radiating from the subject in this image proves the point. A shallow depth of field helps isolate the subject from the background while the mono conversion suits the image. Nice capture!

The relationship of colour in this image is perfect with the red of the tomato and the green of the background playing off each other and working in perfect harmony. The shallow depth of field and tack-sharp focusing on the subject's eye adds to creating an engaging portrait.

This playful photo is all about the decisive moment and the photographer has done a great job of capturing the action at just the right moment. There is a lovely and joyous energy that is full of abandon and fun. Nicely seen and captured.

A stylish portrait that goes to show that you don't actually need to include the subject's face to make an engaging image. The cap and hand gesture are packed with character. The high contrast black and white treatment works well and helps create a cool, gritty vibe.

A beautifully captured moment. The gentle and natural colour palette and well-handled tones really add to the story in this scene. However, it is the naturalness of the subjects that makes the image shine. These moments are hard to capture but when done well can make meaningful and poignant memories.

A great concept that's been well executed. The photographer has done a fabulous job of capturing the emotion of this dancer and the subject's passion is oozing out of the image. It's not easy photographing in these, often challenging locations and lighting situations, but these hurdles have been skilful overcome.

The strength of this image lays in its simplicity, along with the photographer's bold and confident composition. The subtle colour palette is well observed and the quietly confident expression of the subject radiates an inner calm with a touch of attitude.

A striking, slick and professional-looking portrait. The use of gels to add colour accents has been artfully done and the purple hue works exceptionally well with the deep, intense blue of the background. The cool contemporary pose and distant stare of the subject is the icing on the cake.
