New Joiners - People #373

June 2021

You've caught a great moment here and its compositionally strengthened by the two bystanders which draws you in to the performer. Wonderful light capturing his face. It would be interesting to see it cropped a little more so the two woman aren't so prominent perhaps.

This is a great example of a portrait utilising the surroundings of the people. I love the scene and would like to know what they are digging for or planting. Great use of black and white conversion giving the shot a timeless feel to it.

You've caught the happy bride perfectly, great composition and depth of field separating the subjects from the background. Were you the official wedding photographer? 35mm f2 is the perfect lens choice here... Great black and white conversion too in post.

What a scene this is. I would like to know more about where it is. Did you take one with your friend looking right into camera? I think this would make a strong portrait too in this setting with everything going on around him.

This is a great setting and you're right to acknowledge the natural light challenges. The exposure on the young ladies face could be pushed further to catch that light a bit more. Also a little around the hair and cap to give some detail.. I like the composition and the off camera stare.

This is wonderful, great use of natural light giving a soft tone overall and great depth of field isolating the girls from the background. The black and white conversion works well, you could perhaps experiment with a little more contrast in post production otherwise great portrait.

I like the idea you have come up with here. The quality looks ok to me on screen but of course I'm not viewing the original file. Most digital cameras have good sensors these days so I wouldn't let that get in the way of making great images like this one! Its an interesting shot and I think with a little more post production in lightroom would help. Perhaps try reducing the highlights in the sky to see if there is any more detail in the file and experiment with some black and white presets. Well done.

I love this, it's striking. The dominant colour yes but also the relationship of the shapes leading you in to the hull (the wheel and circles.) All of that with the positioning of the two people and the drama of the guy on the oil drum…. The light/colour tone is wonderful, Ive been to the region and know that light. I think this makes a brilliant environmental portrait, well done.
