There are elements of this photo that I really like as its slightly unusual in the sense that such shots don't often appear in a cityscape. I'm drawn to the the contrast of the romantic gesture with the cityscape which works really well. The colour and grade you've used is strong too. It has a filmic quality to it. Interesting, thanks for submitting.

The striking vibrant Indian colours that flood this image give us a wonderful sense of place. I love the sparks you've captured from grindstone demonstrating this older style key cutting technique in India. Great submission and a successful environmental street portrait.

What a great shot. Considering one of your technical challenges was shooting in a dark space you've controlled the light brilliantly. Its so full of atmosphere further enhanced by your aperture choice giving softer focus to the foreground text and the background. The colour grade is perfectly suited to the mood of the shot. Well done!

Sometimes a photo just has the ability to make you smile. This is a joyful shot with great contrasting light on your subject and the overcast sky. You may be able to pull some more detail out of the water and mountains with a little post work in photoshop/lightroom i you wanted to take it further.

It is very reminiscent of a painting you're right! Sharpening tools can often create a look of pixalization - you could try the blur tool instead, very subtlety. I would be tempted to turn your subject round to camera to see more of her profile too as the lighting is great, like a Flemish Renaissance! Great submission.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to submit your photo to the competition. I'm inspired that you are able to express your feelings visually with photography. It's an interesting shot, dark and mysterious. I can't make out the reflection in the glasses but its a great detail!

Strong portrait shot. It has a great intensity about it which comes with his stare, the lighting and your decision to get in close. If you don’t know Bruce Gilden look at his street portraits you’ll love them, he gets up close to heads like this. Bold shot, thanks for submitting.

The pose and composition of your subject works very well. You could have a little more space to the top of the shot to let it breath a bit more. The light is very focused which is creating an interesting mood for the shot so if you wanted next time you could try and bounce a bit more light in to bring out some more detail on the left side of the shot - anything can work! A piece of white card even.

This photo has a very warming feel to it. The colours and the selective focus all make up a great shot. It would be even stronger if we could see a little more of both of their profiles by moving round to reveal them. I really like the soft grasses in the foreground.

I really like this photograph. The wonderful desaturated colours work brilliantly together against the black background. It's a really creative approach to your idea and I think you've made a great success of it. Thanks for submitting your work to the competition!

Compositionally this works really well with the father and son to the left of frame. The shallow focus in the foreground and into the sea is lovely creating a poetic seascape. Only thing I'd recommend is to straighten up in photoshop or lightroom to get that horizon line level. Great black and white tone and feel to the shot too.
