Thanks for the detailed description of how this photo came to happen. I love the colours in the shot, the overall tone being slightly desaturated with the blue paint pot popping out. At first I thought it would be better to have had your subject uncovered by the Bamboo scaffolding but Ive come to like the slight hidden or perhaps shy element to it. Lovely portrait.

This portrait really stands out. I love the connection you have made with your subject. I agree with you about it being difficult to photograph there so you've done well to capture this moment. The colours are superb, his cap and clothing popping against that wonderful Marrakech building behind him bathed in the sun. The format you've chosen works very well, it's a strong portrait. Great first entry, we hope to see more of your work in the future!

It's rare to see such photographs submitted to these competitions so thanks for sharing this one with us. You must feel privileged to have shard the time with the tribe learning the techniques they use. that we take for granted on. daily basis. Great shot, we would love to see more especially if you any of the environment the tribe are living in.

He looks like he's having a good time and accepted your camera wholeheartedly. Often a difficult thing to achieve but always helps to make that connection when shooting a stranger. The tone of the image is very suited, perhaps you've cropped in slightly too much, it its always helpful to see the environment in such a street portrait.

What a fascinating shot and study of people at Dankakil Desert. I think I only see one person not posing for a photo or taking a photo. Proves we can't go anywhere without the desire to capture and store it on a device. I love the landscape with the lowryesque figures, it would make a great large format print. Thanks for sharing with the competition.

Love it. Using the train window to frame your subject really helps put the viewer in the situation. The photo has further strengths due to the layers, first the frame, then the boys then to the platform with the two blurred figures. A subjective note but I'd be tempted to work with the shadows and highlights in lightroom/photoshop to lift the boys face a little and create some further contrast.

Wonderful. Thanks for submitting to the competition. When I saw the image and read about it, I was reminded me of a friends book called 'Understanding Stanley'. Rosie Barnes is the photographer and Stanley is her son, you will find it inspiring and uplifting I'm sure, as I did this photograph. We hope to see more in the future!

This has all the elements of a great shot. I understand you had a few technical hitches but don't get too hung up on those as that can follow. Whats great about this is you have engaged with the group and shot them in an interesting location. We should all keep asking ourselves how can this be better so I would be tempted to shoot a little wider giving the girls space and also if you can shoot with your aperture at f4 or lower if you can to soften the background a little. This helps isolate your subjects against the background. For some inspiration look at the book 'Parklife' by Sophia Spring.

The light is fantastic on your subjects, it has created some wonderful shadows and shapes on their backs. Even though you say 'too sunny ' you have controlled it well under difficult conditions. I would love to see a little more profile to reveal the mens faces. I sense they are smiling and imagine they are about to jump into the sea! Thanks for submitting.

Interesting outfit your model wears and I like the black and white treatment you have given your subject. The tone quality is great, really soft but I think I would be tempted not to crop so close into the dress. It might work better if your subject has space around to let her breath and show those lovely soft shadows from the dress on the ground. Great first submission.

You clearly have good knowledge of studio lighting and I like the approach you've taken with this. The skin tones look spot on and those shadows under the glasses are very soft illustrating the control you have with your kit. It has a great colour palette with the oranges and reds leading us straight to your sitters eyes.

I'm trying to figure this out which makes me like it even more than when I first saw it. It looks like some experiment and is reminiscent of a scientific study. Technically it would be great if we didn't see the light top right. It's creating some good light on the apparatus and the person but the eye is drawn to it which is a little distracting. Intriguing submission, thanks!

This is a clever use of location, available light and camera technique. You've created an intriguing silhouetted portrait of your wife and son. The composition is very strong and I like seeing the profile of your sons head looking towards his mother. Great first submission.
