This really stood out for me. Firstly it reminded me on first glance of the wonderful painting by Georges Seurat - Bathers at Asnieres. Like the painting its offers so many possibilities of happiness. The gathering of so many people coming together after what seems like an eternity away from each other. The composition is very well considered from the higher vantage point looking down onto this scene, The neutral tonality allowing the smaller bursts of colour to shne through. This is an optimistic image, which we all need right now and stood out from the rest in this competition.

Occasionally you come across a scene that has to be taken but few of us are quick enough to make the photograph. This is a rare example of timing and visual awareness to make the best image out of a complex situation. The vantage point, the relationship between the main person and the poster in the backgraound create a perfect comparison. Just a great image.

A classic pose and great technique from the use of a narrow aperture to throw the background out of focus and low angle that gives the viewer a sense of been part of the setting. Strong light on the face really sets this photograph apart as does the exceptional exposre even in the highlights. Very Well done

The power of this image is that we cannot see his eyes. We see his expression and we assume that he is smiling at us with his eyes. The close crop crop and out of focus background really brings the attention to his face and the wonderful hat. is he happy to be photographed, is he posing for the camera? We are not quite sure and thats what makes this pictures so intriguing.

This is a well composed picture. The photographer has managed to get close enough to the action but it needed that look. The woman holding the sign turns her stare to the camera and thats when you take the picture. A split second later and the image is not as strong. A great example of the decisive moment and because of the timing this image stands out from the crowd.

This photograph is all about reaction and looking, Looking for acceptance from a knowing smile. Like a detective we try and understand the roles within the image. For me the strength in this image is the mother holding her child looking at the reaction from her father onto her own child who is lost within the gaze of her grandfather. This is the beauty and power of photography. I do not know the relationships within this photograph but some images allow us this interpretation. This is one such image and it's stronger for it.

Is this image set up or is it a found photograph? maybe it does not matter. Either way it is beautifully composed and the darkening of the steps really adds to the quality of the visual impact of this photograph with the young mans hat framed within the burnt umber colour of the steps. This image takes us back into a different time and occasionally thats a good thing.

Its amazing what a phone can capture these days but it still needs a person with vision to see the potential of a great image. The relationship and space between the couple is wonderful as is the red chair he sits on. The central compostion is very good and the couples differing interest in the photographer really adds to the intrigue within the photograph. Finally the framing of the green around the photograph brings us the viewer really into the scene. Very well seen.

This is a classic portrait in the sense that the focus is on the eyes. But it's much more than just a typical classic portrait. The quality of this photograph is in the trust the sitter places on the photographer. This is a very open and honest picture of a man happy to be photographed. Stunning.

This has a wonderful historical feeling brought by the sepia of the image and the clothes the sitters are wearing. This is not an easy picture to get right. The saying that if you can't see the camera the camera can't see you is perfect for this photograph. The photographer has worked hard making sure his subejcts see him. A really nice photograph and a study in concentration.

We don't see the childs face but we see everything we need to in there mothers eyes and expression. The tight crops adds to the angst we feel looking at this image. It has a feel of the classic image by Dorothea lange - Migrant Mother and this historical reference adds to the power and tenderness of this image.

Some photographs seem on topic even if that is not the case and that is the power of a photograph. We the audience see and experience the same as the group within the photograph. The longing of the open sea, The potential of a better life and the freedom of the ocean. Its a really lovely photograph that can be interpreted in many different ways.

What strikes me in this portrait is just how relaxed and comfortable the sitter is in the presence of the photographer. Its a very well composed picture with good use of light coming back into the models face. It's a classic pose with the confidence of the model shinning through.

This is such a fun image that brings a smile to your face. We imagine the great day the children had with their mum recreating dance moves in tandem together. maybe singing from a scene in a movie? The image is stronger because its taken from behind and this allows us this broader interpretation to imagine. For me it takes me back to the film moves within Grease. Whats your song that this image reminds you of. Great capture.

Great technique really makes this image stand out. It's a very simple photograph and composition and its the better for that. We are taken to the young boys wonderful expression looking out of camera. This is a very natural Black and White photograph and its power is in its simplicity. Very effective.
