What a beautifully observed vignette of life. The inclusion of more of the street was inspired and helps create context and a sense of place. The black-and-white conversion has been handled well. This is a fabulous shot from an iPhone that once again just proves that the best camera is the one that's with you!
The elements of the composition have been harmoniously arranged and the image exudes a cool contemporary vibe. The considered positioning of the objects suggests a bigger narrative which is made evident and all the more poignant after reading the image title and caption. This must have been a difficult project to work on. Kudus to you and peace to you and your family.
There is a lovely, slightly mischievous, twinkle in the subject's expression that has been nicely captured,. The lovely spots of lens flare (which lots of conventional photographers try to avoid) totally adds to the vibe and really makes the shot sing - just proving that it's good to challenge conventions.

A bold and confident approach that works extremely well. The formal, near-symmetric composition, gives strength to the composition. The black-and-white conversion has been skillfully handled revealing a good range of tones. I particularly like the wonderful shapes the hockey gear makes, almost like an abstract sculpture.
