Congratulations! This portrait immediately caught my eye for its tremendous creative editorial choices. You've chosen a wide crop for us to see the landscape, which adds to the narrative of your sitter. I further commend your positioning of the frame, this makes for an excellent portrait. Well done!

This portrait brings generations together, and it is a warming narrative. Well done. I suggest using this as a test portrait and shoot a similar scenario with a DSLR or 35 mm film camera. You can create very nice family photos and build an album too.

Congrats on your first DSLR! You are on a wonderful journey with your new piece of kit. This is a great first approach to natural studio photography. Continue practising and learn from the camera handbook, there are invaluable tips and guides there. Well done!

This is a sweet portrait and I want to highly credit this portrait for its documentary efforts. You've captured a healthy narrative of team work and community. This is a skill that you must pursue, as it will make for interesting street portraiture.

Thank you for submitting this photo to this contest, great subjects captured with the busy street scene. If you're interested to pursuing portraits like this in a future photoshoot, position your lens at a wider point within the full frame, as the foreground looses the impact. However, practise different angles!

This is an impressive entry, especially being shot on a iPhone 5c. Great landscape and framing for your subjects. The main feature here is timing, which you have shot well. I suggest shooting this on a DSLR next time as this will pick up more detail.

Meet the expert judge

I really love how fun this portrait is and the warming narrative you've captured here. Great entry and a different approach to family photography. You have an initial point of focus, in the foreground, and a well controlled balance in the background. Well done!

I appreciate the angle taken here, it feels such a natural approach to street/portrait photography and creates a warm narrative. You've captured a moment which feels special, and often we don't see the behind the scenes of group photos then the main photographer's view. Simple with a great statement!

I’m drawn to this image as the main narrative is not captured, we are focused on perhaps the male is directing with the female silhouette leading the group. We as an audience are involved, but not directly, with this group. Clever suggestive narrative and take on this contest!

What were the technical challenges? lighting: I wonder why this was a challenge as I see this aspect a successful part of the landscape / portrait. You've positioned the frame well and featuring the historic architecture too, which contributes to your choice of sitter.

Congratulations! This landscape portrait has a narrative that is so well portrayed. This image is framed with cinematic references, this could make a strong photo series about girlhood, see the work by Sian Davey and her with her portraits. Well done!

Magic Hour portraits are so timely and a challenge for anyone, and you have succeeded this with your entry. I can see the effort you have out in with location and your model, especially with your focal points. Try a wider crop when shooting a model next time!
