New Joiners - People #467

July 2023

This is a portrait with interesting framing. You've captured a moment which feels intimate, and the contrast in hand pose adds an extra layer. I'd suggest strengthening the eye contrast to bring more attention to the overall portrait. Well done!

Thank you for submitting this photo to this contest, great subject captured and colour tones with the landscape reflections. If you're interested to pursuing portraits like this in a future photoshoot, position your model within ta duller light source for less glare on the glasses' lens. However, practise different angles!

Thank you for submitting this photo, great layering captured and grey tones with the shadows. If you're interested to pursuing photos like this in a future photoshoot, experiment using a 35 mm film. You'll gain great results like this and appreciate the quality too.

Congratulations! This landscape portrait immediately caught my eye. The framing has a unique view on this scene, almost a cinematic quality, with the emphasis on the hand holding and the water scape behind. Colour tones are incredible and reading your camera details, it's very good that there wasn't any over exposure. Well done!

Really fun portrait that focuses on both stillness and movement, you’ve captured your subject at a good angle where their face is in focus and recognisable in a wave of motion blur. Excellent post-production editing here, specifically picking up the highlights.

Congratulations! This is an excellent entry, I like the tones used here, and thank you for mentioning the production details behind this portrait. Shooting during golden hour is always special and you have shot this successfully. Very good balance of aperture too!

I want to highly credit this portrait for its post-production efforts, the styling here with your model, really suits this direction of lighting. The pose is evident with the highlights of your models’ features, unveiling little detail and keeping a sense of mystery. Great tonals’ too!

This portrait has so many theatrical and classic art references with lighting, styling, and poses. Green is a powerful colour to use for a backdrop. I commend you on the full landscape frame of your portrait, it suits the scene very well.

Maria - This is a great approach to headshot portraits, well framed, and you have portrayed your subject with a friendly openness to the narrative. I'd suggest editing out the strap, as it's distracting as part of the portrait. Great job!

Somber Rain - I really love how delicate this portrait and the sense of calm it brings to the eye. This is a tremendous entry, you’ve balanced the lighting so well that it doesn’t over expose your model's features. Gentle, effective and moving. Great job!

I appreciate the angle taken here, it feels such a natural approach to street/portrait photography and creates a warm narrative, with the theme of girlhood and friendships. I suggest you to reference Sofia Coppola's film in future photo shoots, very good!

I want to emphasise this image as a documentary narrative. The lighting is strong and moulded well against your subjects. I feel you could experiment with the frame by cropping to add more intensity to the image. Please continue with this approach!

I’ve chosen this image to review to further commend your use of layers and balance of light in this portrait. I feel the hands really connect the view to the portrait, it gives an openness to the visuals. Try an ISO of 400 next!
