This photograph shows what it is like to hang out in this era. The framing is excellent and the shallow depth of field places the lady center stage in this picture. The light on her is warm and makes the dress and skin tones stand out even more. I assume she is posing to have her picture taken. That's what we do in Times Square and other attractions. It says we are here and goes straight onto social media. Is she posing for this photographer or an other? We will never know but what we have is a stunning capture. Well done.
A great portrait within the tradition of the document. We get to see this person set within an environment of a party, Maybe a party that has already passed given the empty looking bottles? Film gives this wonderful quality and the photographer understands that the skill is in the picture making, framing and subject and has not worried about to much post processing which given the subject is the correct approach. This has a realistic feel to the image and the smoke and stare just add to the drama and intensity. Great capture and keep going with the film. This would make a wonderful photograph of a larger series of work.
Isolating the two women from the surrounding area really adds drama to this photograph. They could be lost away from everything or just over the horizon could be the beach and five star resort. We just don't know and good photography does that. It makes us question what we are looking at. The tight crop and wonderful shadows on the sand work well as does the lovely blue of the girls top against the sky. Great technique and exposure and a powerful composition. Well done.
This is such a classic and timeless photograph. It is warm and fun. The role reversal works so well as the father seems to be having all the fun but the little girl seems content to be doing the pushing. The use of black and white adds to that sense of a moment in time and the inclusion of the house and porch only gives that extra sense of place - We were here then. A lovely capture that will work well in a frame on the wall and in an album for years to come. Well done.
Re-enactment photography is a very popular genre of photography and I see many such examples but very few reach the standards of this photograph. The uniforms are as expected wonderful but the photographers ability to see the entire scene is what makes this picture so powerful. Taking those few extra steps back means we the viewer get to see the entire company and importantly the background which works so well as a neutral and appropraite setting for such a subject. The muted colors work well allowing the flag to stand out but not over doing the saturation so that it becomes to staged. This is a great example of knowing your subject and how to treat it. Fantastic. We get to see the action and I can imagine what it must have been like to visualise such a battle. Well done.
The warm tones almost sepia add that sense of nostalgia to this wonderful photograph. On first view it could be from the wild west as I'm taken back to the films of John Wayne and Henry Fonda. But then you look closer and see the baseball caps and realise this is now. Each element within the frame works so well as everybody has a part to play. It could be a stage set. The vast background has been included to give a sense of place and scale whilst also hinting at the still very hard and physical work this is. A great capture.
The photographer has worked very hard to get into the ideal position whilst also controlling the light coming in from the trees to ones advantage. It would have been so easy to make the central figures too dark given the amount of light coming into the scene but stunning skill and exposure control as resulted in a truly stunning image. The use of color really adds that extra pop to the photograph as does the clever use of a shallow depth of field meaning we concentrate our main attention onto the person in a statuesque pose to the left of centre. The low camera angle gives these men power and dignity and using the trees/rocks to frame the scene means overall this is a beautiful and very well constructed photograph. Well done.
It's always lovely to see what people see when they are making photographs. We know that the picture the lady is taking of the four subjects on her phone will be a close up of them and it will be a wonderful picture. What this photographer has done has given us the context to the subjects and a sense of place. We get to see the environment they are in surrounded by these lovely colours of Autumn and flowers placed around the pathway. This could be a painting, so rich are the colors. Well done to the photographer for spotting this then having the skill to make a great picture. Lovely.
This is a powerful and poignant photograph. The close crop allows us the viewers in and the warm stare back gives us comfort. We feel supported much as the subject does from the love and support of a family around her. These are difficult image to take. I'm so pleased the photographer has done. It is emotional but also a wonderful keepsake and reminder of a life lived. Well done.
The haunting hues of blue that sweep over this entire photograph of winter in Paris act as backdrop to the pocket of warm sunlight hitting the ladies face and beautifully lit hair as she enters the metro station. The elevated camera position makes this more dramatic. It is a candid street photograph. A wider scene but it could be staged. It has that look of a film still such is the quality of the light and timing of the shot and the photographer is to be applauded for seeing this and having the skill to make the entire picture come alive. Great capture.
A beautifully controlled and observed candid portrait. The warm and saturated colors of the clothes the women wears really shine through in this picture. getting down to her level gives it a human feel and the shallow depth of field means we really are with her and not distracted by the backgound. The sharp focus on her face is classic text book portraiture and works so well. A lovely portrait. Well done.

How many times do you pass a building site and just hear the nosies and make sure that you are out of the way in a safe distance. Well I do all the time. What this photographer has done is show the wonderful rhythm and patterns that can happen on such a site. This truly stunning capture forms such a strong formal composition throughout the frame that our eye is taken from top to bottom. Its like looking at an arcade levels game like donkey Kong. So much is happening. I love how my eye zig zags back and forth as I follow the working pattern of the builders. Incredible.
This is a superb example of what we do when we are in a crowd and at an event. The photographers elevated position has given us the audience a glimpse of what most in the crowd in the picture haven't got. A clear view and idea of what they are capturing on the mobile phones. I'm sure most will be dissapointed with the result but our photographer should not be. Great technique and a comment on social behaviour. Wonderful
Lazy days in the sun beautifully seen and captured by the photographer. The mirroring of the two readers in the foreground is perfectly set againt the two benches where people sit in the background and the focus is so good I can almost read the text on the pages myself. Turning the image into black and white means we can appreciate the formal picture qualites within the framing without the distraction of a pop of color that the flowers would have given. The low but elevated camera poition works well and this is a wonderfully seen and constructed image. Great capture and a fantatsic candid street portrait of a place in time.

Indeed it does look like a painting. So many elements to enjoy in this photograph. The muted colors allow us to take in the entire scene without focusing on just one area which is quite some feat when we have a section of the iconic Eiffel Tower looming large in the picture. What I love is that nobody is really paying any attention to the tower which in a wide angle photograph like this, that is incredible. Normally you have several people taking pictures, looking up etc. This surreal image works because of that fact whilst also been a wonderfully controlled photograph, the flair is well controlled and really gives a sense of the structure looming large over the people. The bottle of wine with the couple in the bottom left corner really adds that sense of parisian life. A lovely capture.
