A warm and lovely portrait of a group of children. I take it to be a family. The photographer has made the young children feel at ease in order to make the picture in the first place. The muted colors work well against the expressions on the faces and the tight crop works well which then isolates the background so we focus on them. The one not looking at camera just adds that extra level of intrigue. This is a warm and captivating picture. The expressions are lovely and all different. Well done.
This is a superb example of a excellent high quality environmental portrait. The framing includes both the individual that we mainly concentrate on then our eye is taken around the space behind him. The use of a slightly low camera angle gives the individual gravitas and this is accentuated by his pose, stare and the way he holds the bamboo kane. The color palate of greens is beautifully held together. Green is notoriously difficult to work with but the photographer has blended the different hues together very well. The light coming out of the trees just adds that extra halo of light. The bike in the background is well positioned next to the gate. A stunning example and worthy winner. Great portrait.
This is a lovely and warm photograph. They say never work with children and animals but this shows given the right subjects and a confident photographer great results are possible. The close crop really focus on the girl and cat. The warm wonderful strawberry blonde hair, whispy in the wind works so well againt the background colors and the blue of the top she wears and the cats stare is perfect. A photograph to frame and hang on the wall. Lovely.
A great example of the decisive moment when all elements come together in a frame to create the perfect composition. The girl on the right of the frame works so well and that jump at the right time is then caught in th erefelction in the pool. Very well constructed and seen. Not easy to do. A warm and lovely personal photograph elevated by great technique and timing. Well done.
An incredible tight crop has really brought this scene alive. The wonderful pinks are very well controlled. It would have been easy to go to town and really over saturate these but because they are life like it helps us connect to the picture as a real event. The photographer has captured the event so well which shows off the camaraderie and spectacle of the local tradition taking place. The elevated camera position is essential for us to get an overview of what is happening and again this is full marks to the photographer who has made all the right choices in making this picture. A great vibrant capture. Well done.

The soft warm light acts like a filter which then creates this lovely warm glow to this environmental portrait of a young girl in the cornfields. The quality of light on her face works well against the cooler blues in the sky and the shallow depth of field allows our attention to go to her. We then look around at the fields which the photographer has placed her in visually so well using a camera angle and shooting through the stems. This makes for a wonderful and dramatic portrait. Well done.

This traditional dance is caught beautifully by the photographer whose use of a slighlty elevated camera position allows for us to see the swirls and costumes in all their glory. The high contrast within the scene is well controlled and the saturated colors work well and give the deep oranges and purples in the dresses real depth. We the viwer get a real sense of the occasion and performance going on. Great capture.
This pictures really does give us an idea of the fragility of new born babies. This is a beautiful and tender picture and using black and white keeps it into the tradition of documentary which is common and correct when working with a subject like this. The finger clasped by the litte hand is warm and loving. This is a great moment that just has to be photographed but the photographer has shown great sensitivity to the subject and this is a treasured image to keep. Well done.
The great thing about street photography is that it is unpredictable. Like fishing you can stand around for hours and nothing presents itself. That is why it is so challenging. You have to be looking all the time. This photographer has had the ability to see this then have the reactions to make such a dynamic street portrait. The relationship between the man on the bike and the man carrying the heavy bag on his back makes this image really stand out.. Great post production in controlling the contrast really works in this picture. A classic of the genre. Wel done.
This has a nostlagic feel partly through the use of black and white film, the vignetting and props used take us back to the early days of cinema or the wild west. The quality of light on the main subject is wonderfull and bright which then falls off as we go to the sides but the photographer has still kept shadow details in the curtains which given the amount of light on the main subject is not easy to do, so well done. The framing is excellent and the pose works so well as do the props including the cigarette holder. A great controlled and thought out portrait. Lovely.
This is such a contemporary photograph. the saturated colors from the warm evening light, the snap-shot style posing of the girls who seem completely happy to be photographed is where portrait photography is today. Think of the work of Christopher Anderson or Jack Davidson. This is a great example of what is known as vernacular photography and this is a very fine example. Wonderful capture.
A beautifully composed and technically crafted photograph. The composition is excellent with the elements in the frame all in great positions from the two chairs to the fruit placed around the huddled individual in the center. The details in the white dress are stunning against the shadow details in the chairs and wooden floor. The elevated camera position gives us an overview of the scene. Congratulations to the photographer who has on their first film shoot taken great care with techniqiue and composition. Lovely image.
Stunning composition between the foreground main subject of the two children which is complemted so well by the background with matching colors between them both. The sharp focus on the kids really puts them center stage in this picture and with the stare to camera it is hard to take your eyes off the individual. This is a lovely well exposed picture, not easy given the amount of light and brightness in the scene. The trees in the distant background give real shape and a sense of the place in which the picture has been made. This is a fantastic example of a top environmental portrait. Well done.

This is such a great example of a color but monochromatic atmospheric image. The space between the first land with the four figures works so well in the formal placement between the larger land in the background with the water breaking up the scene. Our eye darts between them both before refocusing on the silhouetted figures which give the picture its sense of scale. It feels peaceful but with the darkened clouds we feel a tension between the landscape and people. A well crafted image that works so well because of the elevated camera position the photographer took. Well done.
