A great example of a classic documentary style portrait. The photographers ability to get so close to the subjects shows great skill with people and wonderful technique. The use of black and white works in this genre and allows us to focus our attention on the two main people in the shot. The wide angle lens and depth of field means we see both faces in total sharpness which works so well. The quality of light on the front girls face is lovely and the exposure is first rate. I love the expressions on each face. They seem to be fine been photographed but not full of happiness.. Just a great capture. Fantastic.

Coffee shops or places where you can just sit and observe life around you are wonderful places to be. The photographer this time has turned the attention onto the watcher and has become the subject themselves.. In the 19th century this idea of looking was called The Flaneur. In this picture we marvel at the red of the jacket against the neutral background and the expression on the woman's profiled face. We get to see a glimpse of what she see but not everything so we have to imagine the view and what it is she is looking at, though the expression seems blank so maybe she is deep in thought. We will never know. We can though enjoy looking at this wonderful picture.

This is such a warm and inviting photograph. The pose and ease in which the model stands makes us feel welcome when viewing the image. The photographer has really taken care to control the flare from the direct light into camera so that it really elevates the picture and framing. The warm matching colors of the outfit work so well with the evening sunlight. A really confident image and one I'd happily have on my wall. Superb

The quality of this picture is in its abstraction and formal framing. The blues really stand out and that eye just is beautifully placed. This could be a Picasso or an abstract from the Cubist period. Some may argue that it is not sharp but for me it works because it is not a straight photograph but an image that gives us a sense of movement one that fits more with a painterly tradition than photography today. Giving it was taken on a iPhone which wants to sharpen everything, Kudos to the photographer for challenging the norms

The tight crop, the way they both look out at different angles and the wonderful colors of the young boys clothes really bring out the detail in this photograph. I love the tie, loose around the mans neck and the wood panels behind really act as a wonderful backdrop for the two people in shot. The fact that they both seem unaware of the photographers presence says a lot about the skill of the picture maker to blend in which is not easy. A lovely family moment that will be kept for a long time.

This was so close to my top 10. I do find myself drawn to the quirky and images that challenge a brief and this picture does just that. The tight crop works well as does the camera angled against the subject. It reminds me of the alternative road movie. Not quite Bonnie and Clyde but a humorous take on the topic. The technique is flawless and the colors work so well especially the creams that run throughout the scene. Well done.

This is such a vibrant photograph. We get a real sense of being there in the action. The camera position and cropping so we only get to see a portion of the person allows us to see exactly what they see, the steps going down and the wonderful stone buildings. The clue and pictures on the brolly just add that extra pop of color. This is a great picture and I could see it in many travel guides. Lovely.

The quietness and serene silence that this photograph evokes really allows us the viewer to spend quality time with the picture. The positioning of the boat in the space between the rocks works so well as does the use of soft tones within the black and white capture. The details in the rocks is excellent and this allows us to look around the entire photograph. Lovely capture.

It's so nice to see a photograph that has been considered and worked out before even making the picture. The way the colors in the background complement the clothes the lady wears. The perfect positioning of the birds and the warm glow around her face just add to that dreamy quality the photographer was after. The model must be so happy with this picture. It's perfect.

A wonderful photograph that works on many levels. The low camera position frames the rider and horse perfectly centered which in this instance is appropriate for the composition. The colors of the foreground leaves are in unison with the waistcoat he wears. The pose of the rider, proud against the obedient horse with its head bowing is stunning. The placement between the two trees just really elevates the image and creates a stage for the viewer to look into the frame. The technique is top notch and cannot be faulted. Just a wonderful, beautifully observed and captured scene. Very well done.

I love the Yin and Yang composition and the tight crop means we focus our attention on the couple and the wonderful smiles they share between each other. The overhead camera position gives us a birds eye view whilst also creating a different type of portrait of a young couple together. The neutral colors used work well as does the use of a grey rug to place them on. A lovely warm and endearing photograph.

This is such a well controlled and technically superb photograph. It would have been easy to lose the face in the reflection of the window but the photographer has shown great skill to keep all the detail in. The tight crop really adds to the intrigue within the picture especially the two hands coming together through the window. The warm band of yellow on the face gives the picture a cinematic feel which works with how you could interpret the story within the picture. Great image. Well done.

This picture has a real retro feel about it. The brown hues that dominate the color palette, the old school illustrations on the brown wall and the expression of the girls face peeking out above the newspaper could be from a fashion shoot inspired by David Bailey's iconic pictures of Jean Shrimpton in the 60s. The technique is very good and the photographer has considered the styling very well. Every element works together from the inside to the outside. Great photograph and one that I could easily see framed in a high end commercial exhibition.

This is such a graphic designed photograph from the use of high contrast which works so well within photography from Asia and the sparse off kilter composition. Normally I like to see straight horizon lines but because of the nature of the image and attention to detail in the main subject this works perfectly as it is. A wonderful and powerful capture of a fisherman at work.

This is such a powerful picture. It's simple in its design but the framing is perfect offering a three quarter stance of the person we view. The vibrant colors really stand out and make the individual come alive in the frame. The pose with the gloves held high and the stare into camera suggest confidence within the sitter. The sharpness in the eyes again draws us in. Just a great example of a very powerful portrait of a female boxer. Great capture. A fantastic photograph.
