When the elements conspire against you, you can (sometimes) have some of the best creative experiences. After reading the caption, it seems this is what happened here. So the lesson to us all is never to be put off if the weather looks bad; it might just be your saving grace. Cracking shot. Well done.
The cinematic vibe in this strong image is terrific. The use of colour is accomplished and expertly controlled. The lovely ambience is rich with mood and atmosphere. The shallow depth of field creates just enough separation from the background and the addition of a little grain is the icing on the cake.
Photographing people at work or doing something intensely is a great way to make engaging and interesting portraits, as seen here. The mono treatment has been done well and speaks to the documentary tradition. Using a shallow depth of field (f/2.8) has blurred what might have been a distracting background and created separation without losing context.

This is a cool and clever idea, a great concept that has been skillfully handled. The sense of space and design in the compsotion is beautifully balanced, with the darkness of the figure being artfully counterbalanced with the glowing eyes of the phone screen all set against the twilight sky and distant cityscape. Good work.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘People’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘Animals’ and ‘Landscapes’.
A clever and artfully realised picture. Naturally, humour plays a part in the success of the image. The narrative implied between the subject and the painting is cunningly conceived with the 'painted' subject seemingly laughing at something whispered to him; it's an inspired idea that's been well photographed.
