New Joiners - People #531

December 2024

People at work can make for interesting and engaging photographs - as this photo from the streets of Chinatown in Bangkok reveals. And food vendors, respectfully photographed, can make a great subject. The hustle and bustle along with the vibrant colour palette have been skillfully captured.

Clever use of light and shadow to evoke a mood and emotion that speaks to the image's title, 'I'm Not Okay'. The handling of the black and white tones has been skillfully controlled, too. This is good work. Keep it up!

The energy and emotion in this fantastic image is sublime. I'm guessing from the title 'Autoportrait' that it is a self-portrait, which makes it all the more impressive. The gritty, grainy black-and-white treatment suits the vibe of the image perfectly. Fabulous work, well done.

This is an accomplished and competent studio image that has been expertly captured. However, it is the model's striking pose that makes this an engaging portrait; this requires good communication and collaboration between the subject and the photographer. Good work. Keep it up.

The composition of this photograph is exquisite. The formal arrangement of line, shape, tone and light is perfectly considered. The quiet contemplation of the priest works well in the composition, and the flickering of light adds a spiritual twist. Good work.

What a charming image showing a lovely and heartwarming moment between a chef and a dog at a kitchen's back door. The rich, sumptuous mono conversion has been artfully handled, especially as the lighting conditions look like they could have been challenging.

The moment of quiet contemplation captured in this lovely image is excellent. The candid approach and the colour palette remind me of the great American photographer Nan Goldin's pioneering diaristic photographs. The bold and confident composition works well too. This is excellent work, keep it up!

The sense of epic adventure oozes out of the frame in this evocative image. The muted sepia tones and hues give the image a vintage vibe. The climbers add a human presence, story and, of course, a sense of scale. Lovely work!

As a very frequent traveller, I can relate to this image. Good travel photography, in my opinion, is not just about fancy destinations but also about the journey, arguably more so. This exceptional composition speaks to the experience eloquently. I love this photography. Great work!

This is a clever and accomplished concept, and I love the title - 'Flower Shower'. A simple but effective idea that has been expertly translated into a studio photograph. The blue and green hues of the subject look great against the shower of pinkish flowers.

It is an interesting take on the "people', but I like how the human presence, albeit small in the photography, speaks about the fragility of the human condition and our relationship with nature. The composition, colour pallet and the handling of the tones are all spot on!

While there is no actual person in this image, making it an interesting entry into this category, there is a haunting human presence. The abandoned, derelict car speaks to many possible narratives and adds a sense of intrigue. The composition is sublime!

There's a beautifully natural vibe to this image. The photographer clearly has a good understanding of available light and how to use it creatively. The light catching the back of the subject's head creates a lovely depth and atmosphere. Good work!

The joyous energy in this picture is fun and heartwarming. It's not just the fun and happy groove; I also like the surreal vibe the green gloves exude. They dominate the frame perfectly. This makes an infinitely more interesting image than just a picture of the view, even though I know the view to be stunning.
