Great technique and colors really grab our attention and the wonderful dancers in the center are really elevated through where they are placed within the frame and how the movement they create is echoed in the large entity in the background. The shallow depth of field and slight edge vignetting keeps our focus and attention onto the main areas of the dancing troupe. Full of life and color. Great capture. Well done.
This was so close to my top 10. The playfulness between the man and the women is excellent as is the way the photographer has controlled the exposure by placing the sun behind the women in the hat. This creates perfectly the silhouette of them both.. The small cloud behind the man is so well seen again. Great technique and a powerful image. Well done.
Is it the same person that we are looking at? Reflections offer up so many visual opportunities and this photographer has carefully captured this well observed scene. The neutral browns work so well and don't over power the framing of the subject and I can also see them again a third time reflected in the far widow, but just the face which is lovely. The exposure is perfect - not easy against the highlights from the door entrance. A great capture. Well done.
A wonderful and warm portrait of a man who seems very happy to be photographed. The warm colors and vibrantly saturated turban work so well against the darker skin tones and muted background colors. The shallow depth of field means we focus all our attention onto the main subject. The tight crop works well and there is just enough information in the face to really appreciate their expression which is warm and lovely. A beautiful and well controlled image. Very well done.
A stunning example of an environmental portrait. The photographer has made some great choices from the three-quarter crop and the subtle way the focus blurs in the background to the exposure which really makes full use of the vivid colors which have been well saturated in the process stage. The sharpness is perfect and the contrasts between the green paint used for the head works so well against the bright red of the outfit especially against the deeper shades in the background. The pose is simple but classic and the eye contact is lovely. and the quality of light across the frame is really well controlled. Superb portrait. Very well done. I could imagine this as a wider project on actors and performers.

The friendship really comes across in this image of these two boys. The use of black and white places the image within a traditional documentary setting and the side on camera angle works really well whilst the intimacy is created by the space in which they are photographed. A superb image that al involved will want framed on there walls. Great capture. Really close to my top 10.
The photographer has captured the vibrancy of the sellers fruit and veg so well. The tight crop really takes our eye into the scene and onto the fruit which are so colorful against the darker background. The relationship and facial expressions between the main dancer and the little girl in the background really make this picture come alive. It is so hard to make great images at events like these. Everything can be against the photographer, the lack of light, distractions in the background. In this case the photographer has worked really hard to make this great image. Really well done. A classic pose from the model with the photographer taking the gamble of then photographing the model up side down in relation to conventions. Wow does it work well. The emphasis is now switched onto the models wonderful stare and the positioning of the arms and body. The tight crop works really well as does the neutral use of black and white. I could see this as part of a larger series. Well done.
As mentioned this is all about timing. Three classic elements coming together to form one wonderful street portrait. The dark background that then places the attention onto the lights and individual walking across the frame. What makes this picture stand out is the visual games seen within the frame. The red hand on the sign very firmly stating to stay put and then this is beautifully followed with the persons hand raised almost in unison. The bright oranges work so well against the grey of the background and I love the details on the Adidas trainers with the red strips. Great timing and exposure add to this superb study.
The wonderful vibrant pinks in the top are well controlled by the muted green background. The tight crop and camera angle looking directly below the subject works really well and gives us the audience a birds eye view. The pose is very well constructed with the little child holding up the two leaves to the face to hide them which again is lovely as are there placements in front of the eyes. A fun and playful image that presents a child in a wonderful habitat. Great capture.
A great environmental portrait of a person with a guitar. The distancing between the person and viewer is well controlled allowing us to see the space in which the image was taken. The great use of colors are well put together from the natural greens in the forest to the almost matching blues of the clothes the person wears. The slight tilt of the face and wide rimmed hat means the face is obscured which adds to the mystery within this image. I wonder what they maybe playing? Great capture.
Superb technique and use of colors highlight this fun and exuberant picture. The central position of the jumping man really grabs our attention as does the wonderful positioning of the shadow below them. Great exposure with detail in the shadow areas and the slight wide angle view gets all the information in that is important. Great capture and control in an image that will be enjoyed by the friends for years. Well done.
This is a really well constructed image. The vibrant pink top works so well against the late evening light and warm neutral colors in the street behind. The shallow depth of field means we focus our attention onto the main subject. I would have liked to see either the hands included or the crop a little tighter. This is of course subjective and does not take away from this lovely capture.
A stunning and very brave example of a self portrait. The photographer has created a powerful and unique image that tells a visual story about life through our body and scarring. The text with the image really allows us to engage further and deeper with the work and offers up an honesty about the image. The tight crop pulls no punches in this unflinching gaze and the use of Black and white means there is no distracting colors to take our eye into one area above another within the frame.
