A family outing that reminds us all of perfect times as a child. Hours of fun poking sticks into streams. The photographers ability to take a step back and get not just the family in but the space around them gives a sense of the rural setting. The composition is very nice with the mother looking out of camera. I would have deepened the colors in post production a little but that is such a subjective matter in what is a lovely capture that reminds me and takes me back to my youth.
This really does tell us about the activity of fishing. The quietness and solitude do come through in this picture. Lovely composition placing the boat to the right of center and the exposure is spot on. I feel calm looking at the image and if ever a photograph can echo the activity it shows this is it. Lovely.
The sharpness of the image and the contrasts between the main subject and how they are placed within the frame makes for a striking photograph. The color of the head wear jumps out as does the wonderful expression on her face. Surrounded by plants, the point of focus on her really works as our eye is taken around the frame and the positioning as she is framed by the plants is excellent. A well put together and presented image. Well done.
This was very close to my top 10. The framing and composition work really well with the shoulders and head just above the horizon line., which is perfectly straight within the frame. looking out to sea waiting for the perfect wave, this image offers us the viewer the same picture that the surfer sees. A really well composed and made image. Great capture.
The excitement on the face is what really makes this image. This is a photograph that intrigues and leaves us guessing. What are they looking at, what are they so interested in. We will never know. The use of black and white means we really focus on the details in the face, then my eye is taken to the reflection of another face with an equally excited expression. A really well crafted image that asks more questions than it reveals. This is why we love photographs. It is about story telling and sometimes we the viewer have to really use our imaginations. Well done.
The tight crop works really well in this witty and well executed photograph. The positioning of the lady is key, set within the painting in front of her, she becomes part of it, with her top echoing the patterns within the painting. This is a very well seen image, any other camera angle would not have worked. Great technique to hold the whites in the gallery wall and hat whilst keeping details in the shadows is not easy with ceiling gallery lights so very well done.. Great capture.
The child's expression to camera really draws us in. Unlike the passerby's, we cant look away or ignore the situation. As a photograph it is very powerful and emotive., The colors on the child's clothes work against the nondescript clothes that the people wear. The tight crop missing out the heads of the other people adds to the power of the picture. This is an image that does not judge but simply asks why. When we think about the world, this does not need to happen. Photography draws our attention to these situations. It is up to us to change it.. Thank you, not easy to make pictures like this.
This wonderfully emotive image is full of lovely touches. The tight crop brings our attention to the facial expression, The earring is a lovely highlight against the skin tones and well judged blurred background. The child full of anger which I suspect is playing up to the camera is a delight.. The use of back and white is very well controlled and the deeper tonal range works well. The wet marks on the T-shirt and the design are really nice and make this a powerful portrait. Lovely. Well done.
A wonderful image. The skill is seeing the potential in a photograph like this, you never know how they will turn out and how the reflections will effect the image. The colors from the car match perfectly the hat the young boy is wearing, The expression looking back, like he will be missing someone or saying goodbye works with the idea of the car and soviet era. The close crop brings detail and our attention focuses on the person, then our eye moves around the frame. The saturation brings out the color in the car in what is a lovely emotional image. Well done.
Very good technique and color balancing, a great tight crop and the positioning of the child to the right of center make for a wonderful portrait. The dark background highlights the warm hair color and lovely tones on the skin. The expression on the young boys face is full of inquisitiveness and the details in the top are really nice. A warm image that will look great framed on a family wall. Timeless. Very well done.
The attention to details are equally seen in the making of this image as well as in the details the person is carrying out set within the picture. The use of black and white adds that extra contrast that works well in a picture like this, the light coming onto the face and hands is very well controlled and that extra highlight on the nail is lovely. A wonderful example of a environmental portrait. Great capture.

Meet the expert judge
This beautifully judged environmental portrait shows perfectly the relationship this group have with the landscape they inhabit. The saturated colors really bring out the details in the clothes they wear and in the greens against the deep blue sky. The mottled light flickering across the faces is lovely as is the way the photographer has captured them in different poses and all doing different things. The composition is well weighted with the group well placed within the frame under the tree. A great environmental portrait. Well done.
I really like the composition which gives us the viewer an idea of the game in progress from a unique perspective. The positioning of the hay stacks adds to the circular feeling to what is going on in the frame, The saturation of the colors are neutral which really work well in this instance and allows us to concentrate on the composition. It takes me back to my childhood and playing games like this. Very well done. Great capture and full of memories.

The sharpness on the faces really reveals the happiness and sense of community within the picture. This highly saturated image puts a smile on my face and the camera angle is just right waiting for the bikers to come to shore. A great group environmental portrait. I'm sure they would all love a copy of this photograph. Great capture.
