This beautiful quietly observed environmental portrait is a study in concentration by both the subject at work and the photographer who has carefully crafted this wonderful portrait. The rich colors and warm subtle light that fills the room allows us the viewers to feel that we are there in the room with them. I love looking around the frame at all the artwork. A great portrait. The technique is first rate with the highlights especially well controlled and the expression on the subjects face really lights up the image. A powerful story behind a powerful and haunting image. This close up portrait using a very shallow depth of field allows us to focus first on the eye then slowly as we move around the frame we notice the other features which keep our attention. The skin tones are very well controlled and the quality of light across the face is excellent and the use of black and white gives the image its power. A brave and moving portrait. Congratulations to the subject and photographer on such a strong collaboration.

This image is really made by the man whose face we can see. It takes away the tension in the scene, in what looks like difficult fishing conditions. The subtle color palate of the rocks and sea are broken by the strong and vibrant clothes the individuals wear in what is a very well controlled photograph. Great exposure and formal picture making skills really stand out in this well composed image. Great capture.

The quality of light on her face is really lovely and the grain adds to the picture surface. It's great to see a photographer not at work but looking for a subject and it is obvious that something has caught their attention as she looks up maybe looking for that perfect picture. The close crop works really well and the darker background and top they wear means all the attention is on the face which has an angelic quality in what is a well observed and taken image. Well done to the photographer we can't see in the picture.

This wonderfully composed image is very well crafted from catching the man off center to the boat moving out to sea to the soft horizon of the city and the bird flying high above the clouds. The exposure is very well controlled not easy in high contrast conditions in what is a really interesting capture and I must ask - why is the man wearing a suit? it does look so out of place and this is what makes this image stand out. A great capture. Well done.

Street photography is all about timing and anticipation. The photographer has brought these elements together perfectly. See a striking poster then focus and wait for a moving subject to interact to create a great composition, and this is what has happened. The striking blue background in the poster and expressive stare with the lady then walking across the stage looks directly to camera. The exposure and framing are well done in what is an excellent timed candid street portrait. Well done.

This stunning portrait combining this amazing vista with the interaction of the single figure is a classic in composition and framing.. We see what they see which is a device used in many great paintings never fails to still impress. The soft light across the scene works so well as do the warm colors of the clothes they wear against the rock they sit on in this dreamy well composed photograph. A classic.

A wonderfully composed image. Each of the four children are engaged in different activities within the frame from the two in the bottom right playing with the ball to the others swimming away but the girl with the purple top looks onto the action to there right. The exposure is very well controlled with the colors of the tops and ball popping against the green water. The ripples caused by the children's activities gives a real flow to the picture and the high camera angle allows us the viewer to easily witness these activities. A great capture that reminds me of images I would see in National Geographic Magazine. Very well done.

I'm really fascinated in this unique image which really git my attention. So close to my top 10. This ghostly image that looks like a color negative is interesting not just because of the technique but because of the subjects set within what looks to a grand room and the activity they are engaged in. Is the person sitting getting a hair cut? I'm not sure but its such an intriguing photograph. Well done.

The mirrored face with that stare to camera could be a scene from a film it is that well positioned. The highlights in the face really stand out against the darker background and the focus seems to be on us not themselves which is really interesting and makes it feel like we have been caught staring at them. Great technique in difficult moving conditions within a subway. This is a powerful photograph that really draws you in. Superb.

A poignant photograph and a stark reminder of both a sense of duty and life itself. As we witness this young man paying respect to his grandfather in this subtle and well considered image. It almost feels wrong to write about technique given the moment within the frame but the exposure is spot on and the framing with the young man to the left of center opens up what we are looking at perfectly. A lovey photograph that I'm sure will be treasured as a warm reminder of another time and add to so many other memories. Well done.

A haunting and dramatic photograph of a single person close to the waters edge. The stark black and white tones add to the drama and how we read this image. The condensed wave coming towards them is wonderful as is the other person in the water. This wide angle shot creates so much drama in what is a very quiet and calm still image. Superb.

Sometimes you just get lost in the moment. This young man maybe aware or maybe not of the cameras presence as they look to be in a bubble listening to music whilst on a beach. The use of flash highlights and separates the person from the darker background in this well composed and controlled portrait. Well done.
