Perfect use of a bus window to create a frame within a frame compositional approach that works very well. The direct eye contact makes for an engaging portrait while the wonderful hues of blue and yellow, with a splash of red harmonise the colour palette.

The atmosphere in this well-seen scene has been captured with a keen eye. I sense echoes of the Dutch painter Vermeer with the strong window light and colour palette. The greens, blues and reds of the subject work well. Good work.

Making a portrait in dappled light is often considered something of a nightmare for photographers and is best avoided. However, in some cases, it can be a delight. While the conditions are challenging to work with, you've pulled it off perfectly. Kudos.

There is a real sense of energy in this engaging image. I love the composition, which is held together well by the telegraph pole on the right of the frame. The mono conversion has been well controlled and suits the subject matter perfectly.

This is a lovely portrait that works well on many levels, not least the lovely sense of connection with the subject. While the mono conversation has been skillfully controlled, I can't help wondering how wonderful it might look in colour with all those lovely sunflowers. Great shot, keep it up!

Wow, this stunning tableau is loaded with narrative and intrigue. I'm not exactly sure what that story is, but mystery is good. Using the mask has echoes of the great American photographer Ralph Eugene Meatyward, a hero of mine. Good work.

This minimalist portrait is simply sublime. Photographing in snow can be very challenging, and all too often it either looks grey and muddy or the detail has been blown. It is challenging, however, you have managed to capture it perfectly. Technical stuff aside, I just love the vibe.

I've always wanted to go to the Phuska camel fair, it looks amazing and must be a veritable feast for the intrepid travel photographer. The composition and handling of light, artfully capturing the fire's flames, work well in this engaging image. Good work.

The gritty, grainy, high-contrast black-and-white treatment is perfect for this well-seen street scene. The positioning of the two characters in the frame adds to the story, and the timing has been perfectly captured in the spirit of the decisive moment.

The use of light is restrained and beautifully controlled to suggest shape, texture, and story. It's not easy to photograph in this way and have the confidence to include so much shadow, but it's been handled with skill here. Kudos.

I love photographs of hands; I feel they can make wonderful portraits of people, even if we cannot see the subject's face. And these hands make a beautiful portrait; the 'smile' tattoo says so much, too. The warm-hued black-and-white conversion works well. Good work.

Meet the expert judge

Wow, this image is oozing with atmosphere and cool smoky vibes. The silhouetted performer against the shaft of misty light is wonderful and works well in evoking the moment as described in the caption. It's hard to imagine it was taken at a gig as the vibe is so serene. Kudos to you.

I love the trio of hats in this frame. Working with odd numbers of 'things', in this case, hats, can be a good way to make harmonious compositions, and you can see that at play here with the triangle shape the three hats make.

"Taken in a car wash" - which just goes to show that there are opportunities to make good photographs just about anywhere, and you don't necessarily need a big fancy studio with specialist lights. I love the moody green hues in this atmospheric image. Kudos to you!
