A great example of seeing the potential of a photograph then making it happen which in the world of street photography is not easy. Considered the hardest genre in photography given the nature of its unpredictability the photographer has crafted a superb environmental portrait. The positioning is key to this images success and the light coming into the frame and down the staircase works so well. The use of black and white adds drama and a sombre note to the subject. The exposure is well controlled given the highlights the lens is pointed at in the roof. Great composition and timing. Well done.

A stunning capture of person and place in this atmospheric photograph that really draws us in. The quality of exposure in very difficult lighting conditions is to be commended with the shards of lights coming into shot which really adds to the wonderment of this scene. A perfect capture in what looks like a perfect place. Well done.

The sense of serenity and calmness really comes through in this well constructed photograph. The light coming into our viewpoint works so well and gives an otherworldly feeling to the image. The soft colors and single individual looking out adds to that feeling of tranquility within the scene and I wish I could be there as well. Well done.

The rhythm of the individuals almost become one like reading a sheet of music as they flow within the framing of this wonderful snapshot of life. The backdrop of large bags makes a perfect background for the riders whom offer a mixture of tiredness and posturing for the camera in this tightly cropped environmental group portrait. The exposure and saturation are very well done in what is a stunning capture. Very well done.

Stunning colors really make this image leap from the screen. The close crop means we spend all our time looking at the person in the frame and the wonderful expressive face they have. The shallow depth of field gets rid of any background noise so we can just enjoy the colors and this wonderful portrait. Well done.

This image shows that you don't need expensive film or digital cameras to make great images. You need a great eye, an understanding of light and subject and having the means to make the image in the first place. The saturation is really bumped up to create a visually strong image and the light on the face frames the individual perfectly. The crop and camera angle means we spend out time looking at the young man thinking what is he looking at. A stunning capture and shows the photographers ability to make a fantastic image in the moment. Well done

Lost in thought- this original and unique take on the brief works so well. The tight crop and overhead positioning gives us the perfect view on what looks a serious image but must have been fun to do. I wonder how many takes before the photographer was happy with the final outcome? The subtle colors especially the skin tones against the pale blue/grey background work very well together and the bubbles on the surface give a sense of depth to the image. The tight crop means all the attention is on the face in what is a great capture. Well done.

A powerful and moving portrait of a young girl. The contrast levels are judged perfectly and the details across the highlights in the face and dress work incredibly well with the shadow areas around the neck which frame the face. The anguished expression is deepened with the closed eyes and the tight crop means we look directly and at all times into the face. It's not what we would describe as a pretty picture. It has emotion and shows a different side to the usual pictures we see of children. It is very beautiful in its own way and draws our attention. Stunning. Very well done.

A wonderfully composed portrait of a young woman set against the strong brutalist architecture. The framing of the individual is well seen and set up with the buildings acting like a frame around the face and body. The stare into camera works very well with the subject and gives a sense of unease. This is added to with the bright blue eyes. It has a feeling of otherworldliness and that fits in perfectly with the subject. Fantastic capture and constructed image. Well done.

A unique take on what is still considered a classic of working class British drama. Maybe the young man in the image is waiting for his bird to come back to him. You have to know the film for the reference but what i will say this image lives up to the quality of that film. Stunning black and white which is soft and detailed works well especially the face around the controlled highlights in the sky. A great capture full of history.

This beautifully timed and judged image just leaps off the screen. The framing is perfectly judged with the dress and person running towards the camera and the soft yet bright colors work so well for the occasion and subject matter. The exposure could not be improved on which is not an easy thing to do given the whites within the dress. A wonderfully timed and expressive portrait of a young woman on a special day. Creative and unique. A great capture.

A different take on the brief which works very well and does give us an idea of how people can feel within the hustle and bustle of modern life. This well constructed image taken high above the subject gives us a sense of being trapped yet still constantly moving. The color palate with its browns have an urban feel about it in what is a well constructed image that discusses what it is to live both within your own mind and the city. Well done.

A contemporary color portrait that would grace any of the big competitions like the Talyor Wessing Portrait Prize. The positioning of the individual on the river bank works really well set against the trees in the foreground, which frame the person The soft directional light emphasis the face and the strong pose resonates with being young. The shallow depth of field in good light tells me this photographer really knows what they are doing in this well controlled and powerful environmental portrait. Great capture.

An atmospheric portrait that is full of the persons history set behind them in frames and the flag. This beautifully descriptive but subtle portrait is rich in technique and showcases the photographers talent for making and understanding what makes a great environmental portrait. It's full of emotion and we can almost imagine the soulful music the man is playing on his instrument. The soft colors work so well and this classic image really does stand out from the rest in terms of its styling. Stunning.

Such a fun and well seen image. It's the fact that this rather unusual scene full of wit and humour seems so normal is what makes it a great photograph. The tight framing works so well and the timing between the exchange of the ice-cream is beautifully done. The soft light bathes the entire frame allowing us to work around the subject without our attention going to just one area. The smile on the face is so natural and works well in what is a wonderful capture of the eccentricities of life. Superb.
