A stunning example of humanist photography that has its roots in black and white documentary photography. The soft skin tones work so well against the darker backgrounds and the lovely expression on the child's face looking out of frame works really well. The added inclusion of the dog wanting to get in shot only adds to the composition. Great capture and well done. You have a very good natural eye.
Group sports provide the ultimate camaraderie especially in children's games. This special moment is wonderfully captured by the photographer. A single moment of pure joy and emotion caught on the young faces and that sense of togetherness captured in a single frame. The stripes on the players tops works really well in black and white and the soft focus of the area in the background gives us a sense of place and community within the frame. Perfectly timed, this great capture I'm sure will be a framed picture in these young boys homes for decades to come. Wonderful.
A lovely capture that gives us the viewer a real sense of the occasion and atmosphere at this event, that the two main individuals are trying to capture in a selfie together for themselves, as a memory of the time they were at this event. The vibrant colors are well controlled and the exposure is spot on but it is the elevated camera angle that allows us the viewer to see the entire event unfolding - well done to the photographer for gifting us this beautiful photograph.
A beautifully composed photograph that really is a delight to look at. The overall composition is very well balanced between the use of a low camera angle to accentuate the vibrant flowers in the foreground which sets up the scene as our eye then goes to the individual picking a stunning bouquet from the field. The contrast of the flowers they hold against the black garments they wear is visually striking and the blue sky with the white cloud offers balance within the frame. The exposure is spot on with details even in the darker clothes well controlled. Overall this is a stunning image that holds our attention and would look great in a magazine like National Geographic. Very well done.
A really nice composition and good understanding in formal framing really makes this image stand out. Our eye just moves across the frame on the diagonal from the top of the B to the bottom right corner. The color of the suit matches well with the paint work of the shopfront in this well observed candid street portrait. Well done.

The photographer has got the best seat in the house and has made a great image that will I'm sure be framed and placed within the family home. The photographer has captured this wonderful moment of a young woman caught in a pocket of light in what looks to be a religious environment. The highlights on the face and arms means she stands out against the darker background and the use of black and white elevates this moment without the distraction of color. The elevated arms and head raised high adds to the feeling of this emotive and well seen and captured image. Well done.

A stunning composition bringing elements together which only add to the visual delight in looking at this photograph. The surfer contemplating the ocean would be enough but the inclusion of the birds adds that strange quality to this image that now reminds me of the surreal worlds of the album covers by the band Pink Floyd. The saturation is just right without over doing it so we look at this picture with a sense of we could be there and the quiet moment that we feel just by looking at this image brings a calmness, which is lovely in this fast paced world. Clever and well controlled. Great capture.
We cant see the band on stage but the sense of occasion is palpable within this visually strong and emotive image from a concert. The flags make it unmistakable that it is Glastonbury and the two bright flares in the center of the frame are the real focal point and offer illumination and depth as we look around into the crowd. I love the silhouette of the individual wearing the cap, hands in pocket, looking out into the crowd. Whilst the flagpoles offer a sense of scale to the photograph. The red tint at night really works, in what is a powerful portrait of a gathering coming together. I can feel the emotion looking at this photograph. Well done.
This powerful portrait of a group of children who seem genuinely intrigued by the camera provide the subject for what is a lovely capture. The tight crop and great framing really adds drama and intensity to the image and the soft saturation gives this picture a natural feel which is important in documentary photography. The subtle use of focus places the child with the star on there forehead central to the image but it is also how the others are framed within shot that really elevates this group portrait. Great capture.
An image that is like a mirror -you cant help but smile back in this infectious portrait of two young children clearly happy to be together and photographed. The image is playful and warm and the quality of light on the faces really elevates there smiles. I would have liked to see a little more information in the background especially with placing the children to the right of the frame but that is such a small consideration in what is a lovely capture.
This wonderful overhead shot allows us to get a sense of scale and sheer beauty and also danger of what the natural world offers us individuals. The exposure is the real star of the photograph in what is very difficult to control given the amount of light reflecting back off the snow. The photographer has done an amazing job to control the highlights whilst holding detail in the shadows and the wonderful shadows cast by the mountaineers really gives a sense of dimension to this breathtaking photograph. The elevated camera position and quality of the directional light really gives impact to this scene of a group of people waiting for a bus. They are all lost in their own worlds and we can delight in spending time observing them and what they are doing from looking to see if the bus is on its way, to being in the shade on their phone. The darkened background gives a sense of importance to the highlighted individuals and the use of color adds vibrancy in places which elevates the image. A lovely candid street portrait. Well done.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘People’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work.
