This beautifully observed scene, formally photographed, really stands out through the simplicity of the composition where our eye is drawn first to the individual sitting down then along the pillars as they guide our eye through the entire frame. The positioning of the person to the center right works really well as it opens up the space and the soft blurring into the background really brings our attention towards the older gentleman, whilst the color and saturation are perfect in what is a wonderfully composed image. Well done.
The photographer was not the only one interested in the flowers around them as they have perfectly captured an individual photographing the area from the other side. This extra dimension only adds to the complexity of the formal arrangement which is done so well with the inclusion of the tops of the flowers in the foreground and the soft colors all around the frame. Lovely. Well done.
The vivid colors burst across this scene. The tight crop really accentuates the dynamic between the brilliant pink and purple flowers and the gardeners who justifiably look content with this group of bloomers. The soft greens in the background shape and frame the intense scene in the foreground perfectly, in what is a lovely capture, the saturation is very well controlled and the quality of light shines through onto the main subjects. This gritty wide angled black and white environmental portrait of a group of people is uniquely captured by the photographer using a very low camera angle and unusual framing device of shooting the main area through the moving legs of an individual cutting through the frame. This gives real impact and added drama to the scene in what is a fantastic capture. The exposure is well controlled especially between the shadow areas of the legs in the foreground and the highlights of the people in the background. An image that really stood out from the rest of the entries. Great capture and vision. Well done.
This well organized procession has been broken up by the little child slightly out of line but this makes for a really interesting visual break in the formal picture framing. Our eye goes straight to them as they copy the clapping of the adults in a delightful display. The use of a wide angle lens allows for greater information as we get to see the group and the background they inhabit in this delightful display. Great capture.
This beautifully framed and contemplative portrait of an individual standing by the waters edge looking down into the pools of water is just so lovely. The positioning of the body framed by the plants and trees takes our eye straight to the center of the frame and the slight turning of the head allows us the viewer to see the person looking down which is accentuated by the higher camera position, the soft muted colors work well and the light cloud details reflected in the water are held so carefully so that it really opens the space. This is a stunning image that allows us to reflect alongside the person in the frame., haunting. Very well done.
This wonderfully de-saturated image of a person set within the landscape gives us a sense of scale with the human element set centered within the frame looking out onto the giant space around them. The soft colors work so well and the sweeping sky and clouds add an other worldly feel to the image. A lovely capture.
This well seen photograph stands out for the quality of its technique in relation to the subject and how all these elements come together perfectly from the positioning of the man to the left of center to the soft shallow depth of field background but still illuminated from the street lights and shops that play a significant part in how we view this image. The rim lighting on the side of the mans hair is lovely and lifts the entire image. Great capture.
This atmospheric image really is timed perfectly. The fisherman casting their net is beautifully caught in mid throw and the silhouette is framed by the warm glow of the orange light which bathes the image surrounded by the dark shadows of the shore and vista in the background. The pylons that move through the frame add a sense of scale and dimension to the image in what is a wonderful capture.

This vivid and brightly colored portrait exudes quality. The technique is perfect from the soft saturated colors that could easily have been taken up too far but are presented in a natural way. The tight crop and the positioning within the frame of the individual allows the vibrant background colors to really come alive in this stunning portrait that would happily grace many a magazine. Another image that was so close to my top 10. The exposure is perfect which is not easy given the highlights coming in through the window but the photographer has done a great job in controlling the highlights that hold detail and the shadows within the room. The wide angle lens allows us to see more details around the room and the interaction between the two individuals in this well crafted interior portrait. Well done.
This was so close to my top 10 with the stunning reflection of the landscape in the pupil. We get to see the landscape and what the individual is looking at whilst actually seeing a totally different approach and view. It's clever and well produced in what is not easy to technically do. Really well done.
This wonderful example of an almost anti fashion photograph is really contemporary in its thinking and visual delivery. The unease within the poses reflects the spontaneity of youth today and that is refreshing. The stare to camera works really well as does the setting of the models between the grass whilst the black and white clothes really stand out against the vibrant green background. A modern portrait of youth. Superb.
The photographer has got right into the heart of the action which takes great skill and bravery whilst then having the ability and calmness to make a stunning image as well is very impressive. This stunning highly saturated political portrait really takes on added significance once you meet the stare of the young child's eyes as they go off into the distance. Hypnotic. The low camera angle gives extra meaning to the protest and the photograph that is held by their side. The clarity is excellent and the pink works so well against the deep blue sky in this powerful photograph of peaceful demonstration. Well done.
