This well judged image works on many levels from the framing and tight shallow focus on the umbrella and logo printed onto the back of the jacket to the subtle saturation which works perfectly given the weather conditions the photograph was taken in. It's not easy to follow someone in the street and create a well composed and technically spot - on image. Really well done.

This is a great example of an environmental portrait where the background is as important as the individual within the frame. The space gives us clues from the garments on the washing line to the painted floor tiles and the wonderful door to what this individual may do, the pose of the person is of someone happy to be photographed and the saturated and colorful clothes they wear work well against the muted background. A great capture.

This beautifully presented and composed portrait radiates quality from the flawless technique and understanding of lighting to the color scheme which is vibrant and the different hues of reds jump off the screen. The close crop and side on view work very well as does the bride with their eye's closed. The dense black background frames the sitter and veil perfectly and the highlights on the face jump out. A superb portrait that really stood out. Very well done.

This quiet and understated image uses a very subtle color palate to draw us the viewer into the scene. The framing is impeccable with the hidden individual obscured by the muted colors of the clothes they wear and the positioning behind the tree against a similar colored backdrop. The isolation within the sparse landscape really comes across in this image that relies as much on our senses and experience as it does in what it shows. A really evocative image. Well done.

The tight crop and eye contact looking straight to the camera offers an uncompromising portrait of a young woman. The use of black and white and square crop places this image as a companion to the work of the great American photographer - Diane Arbus. It reveals without revealing. A powerful study. Well done. It would make for a great series on intimacy.

This vivid and colorful portrait of an individual is well constructed from the camera position below the persons eye line and them been placed within the darker background and between the triangle in the center which makes for an excellent formal visual arrangement. The exposure is very good, not easy given the highlights and white shirt he wears. This is a lovely capture. Well done.

This contemporary take on an almost classic Winogrand style street image from New York in the 1960's works very well. The wide angle lens allows us to see into the space to the right of the image whilst the stare away from camera in the opposite direction takes our eye out of the frame. The black and white tones are well judged and the face mask gives us a time frame for when the photograph was taken. A classic street portrait. Well done.

Given we are looking at three individuals silhouetted there is an amazing amount of depth within this intriguing image. The guitarist on stage cuts a classic pose as do the fans in the audience. The lighter blurred backdrop presents a perfect composition for the individuals within the frame. the tight crop works really well as does the use of black and white. Great action shot, well done.

This playful and fun image is very well executed from the appropriate poster displayed in the background to the highlights hitting the young child in the car in the foreground. The relationship between light and dark work perfectly in this photograph as it allows the deep saturated colors to really stand out. The quality of light and expression on the child's face make the image in what is a lovely and well controlled image. Very well done.

This beautifully caught and framed candid portrait works so well because of the simple lines and emotion on the face. What are they thinking about? we will never know but we are left with this lovely image. the muted wall of the background allow for the vivid colors of the clothes and garments pegged up to really stand out in the foreground. The framing is perfect as is the exposure. The only thing is the focus which is on the sleeves rather than the face. A small issue which does not detract from the quality of the picture. Well done.

The very low camera position looking up into the space works very well. The photographer has controlled the framing and exposure perfectly allowing the vibrancy of the pink dress to really stand out against the blue sky and white clouds that bring the composition to life. The model (Lenka) looking straight ahead adds to the suspense and sophistication of this well constructed photograph. Great capture. Well done.

A wonderful collaborative image made between model and photographer. The technique is seamless using a fast shutter speed to freeze the hair and water in mid air whilst the shallow depth of field really focuses our attention on the model themselves and the movement of the head and the effect it creates. The horizon line is perfectly straight which is an important visual within the background and the color saturation is well controlled and natural whilst the additional highlights on the face really work well in this well constructed image. Great capture.

A lovely photograph which works well with the caption. The interplay between the four ladies with their very different gestures and poses really keeps our attention focused whilst the colors of the clothes leap from the screen , especially the pink and green in this well seen and taken image. Well done.

This quirky and fun street portrait shows great technique and speed of thought. The framing is immaculate, placing the instrument directly where the persons head would be within the frame. Especially fun is that they are reading the notes on the sheet of music which from our perspective is obscured. The shallow depth of field allows the focus to be on the central figure. Great capture and very well seen and photographed.

This quiet black and white image which is beautifully shot shows real emotion whilst also showcasing the photographers ability and knowledge of light and exposure. The soft tonal range works very well with the individual naked on the sofa and it is this vulnerability which shines through. A wonderful study of the human form set within a domestic interior.
