Blimey, this was such a difficult contest to judge as some of the entries were simply staggering. To me this just proves it. What an incredible shot. I wasn't sure where to start with my review but it has to be those beautiful rolling hills and the shadows they cast. Simply gorgeous. They're like waves running across the countryside with such variations in the greens although the lilac patch at the top is a nice contrast. I can really appreciate the grain store as I work for an agricultural company and visit quite a few of them. Not what I was really expecting for a lone building but something a little different. The grain store even has differences in it form the round silos to the angled main store behind them. I also like the fact there's no horizon as the land fills the whole frame and my eyes keep being drawn to the building. Wow. Thank you so much for entering the contest and congratulations on the judge first place.
There were a few shots of Neuschwanshein but this is the one that really stood out to me. It's a place I wish to visit and this shot does nothing to dispel those wishes. It purely enhances them. Such a tremendous moody, atmospheric shot with a fantastic minimalist feel to it yet full of presence. The composition is spot on and the placement of the castle itself perfect. I wondered if anything else in the negative space would have worked but I don't think it would. It deserves to be just that, a negative space. A wonderful shot and a superb example of a one building landscape.
This is an absolutely cracking shot with beautiful harmony between the silky smoothness of the negative space and the crisply defined lines of the hut. To me it had to be in monochrome to really bring out the definitions. A very impressive image and I'm sorry it didn't quite make the top ten but it was just a bit too minimalist for what I was looking for in this contest. Fantastic nonetheless.
What a truly fabulous landscape shot. A beautiful capture which takes me back to when my dad and myself used to spend many an hour tramping through the hills. This shot really made me feel I was there and the sense of bleakness is really strong. In saying that the edge has been taken off the bleakness with the colours running throughout the image. Lovely muted tones which blend superbly with the light that is cast around the old cottage in the valley. The whole shot has a great balance to it with the track taking you perfectly down in to the valley and the cottage below. A beautiful shot and one I can get completely lost in.

Landscapes can contain many elements but this contest is to show one building alone. It can be any building you choose from a shed to a castle, but it has to be the only building in your shot. From a crumbling ruin to a new build show what catches your eye when it's the only building in sight. There can be other elements in the shot but please keep the building to one. It would be appreciated if submitted shots were ones that weren't repeats from more than three previous contests.

Another entry that had me viewing it over and over. What I really like about it is the fact that the main elements seem slightly "off" composition wise from where they may obviously have been. With that I mean the lighthouse is slightly off centre rather than slap bang in the middle and the steps/slabs are just a bit to the left, again not right in the middle. I don't know whether this was intentional or not but I think it works a treat. The lighthouse itself has some wonderful weather beaten features, highlighted beautifully by the golden light that blends in with the wispy sands. A lovely, lovely capture.
A great shot that caught my eye mainly for the fact it's used the framing perfectly. A little different from most of the other entries as it was shot from within a building but perfect for the contest. There are some delicate pastel colours with lovely use of the light coming through the window and casting a few shadows on the windowsill. I'm one for giving a bit of thought to the title of my own photos and I really like the title this one has. Another great entry.
