An unusual image, the subject of which is not immediately apparent on first viewing, but that is one of the things which attracted me to the image, as it invites further exploration. I like the rather abstract look of the image, with the slightly distorted wiew we get looking through the transparent chair backs, and the bold orange shades throughout the image have been well captured. A well seem image, great work, well done on your top ten placing.
This is an image I like the more I look at it. Initially there is an element of humour, with the adult popping out of the crops, and the youngster attempting to do the same, but not being quite tall enough to see, nor short enough to hide! Besides the humour however, this image has been very well captured. Aperture choice is spot on, as the relatively shallow depth of field isolates the subject from the foreground and background, and focusing is just where it should be. The added bonus is that the deer is looking directly to the camera. A very limited range of shades of light golden brown, but just enough contrast to clearly define the different elements of the shot. Congratulations on your second place finish.
An unusual but striking abstract, creating a great minimalist shot out of the reflections of light on a wall. I like the slight edge of mystery about the image, as it invites us to look further to try to establish exactly how the image was created and how the highlight was cast. The inclusion of the window-type structure at the bottom of the image works well, as otherwise I think the shot may have been a little too minimalist and lacking interest or context. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
The bluey greys filling the frame in this image really convey a sense of icy chill. A simple but effective composition with the main ice feature centrally placed, naturally reflected in the calm water. Everything looks well focused and exposed, and there is plenty of detail within the scene for the eye to explore. Well done on your top ten placing.
This image stood out for me as soon as I saw it and it was always in my top ten. Obviously in this particular contest it was a requirement for images to be just one colour throughout the frame, but as a general image, the monochrome look of the scene is its real strength for me. Everything looks well focused and exposed, and the lack of any strong highlights or shadows allows of detail to be seen within the structure and work of the tannery, without causing one feature to dominate over another. The composition and framing of the shot seems just right, as the hanging skins are large enough to be identifiable, but we can also see plenty of the surrounding architecture too to give context. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
When done well, I really love this type of image, where a multitude of very similar subjects entirely fill the frame. Some may find the lack of a clear focal point disorientating and confusing, but for me that is the appeal with this type of shot. Bang on brief for the contest (in which many entrants seemed to interpret "one" colour as actually meaning "several" colours!) as the frame is entirely filled with just a few shades of muddy brown. The curved horns of the beasts provide enough contrast in shape to easily identify the subject, and the image has been perfectly exposed with a good range of tones from the glistening wet highlights to the deeper shadow areas between the individual creatures. The splashes of water add a real sense of movement and the whole image has wonderfully captured the frenzy and the spectacle of the wildebeast migration. Congratulations on your winning image.

A lovely image which has captured this beautiful fox in a great stealth mode as it prowls on the hunt for prey. What really makes the image stand out for me is the backlighting, which illuminates a rim of golden fur around the fox. Being picky, the image may have been even stronger had the subject been a little less centrally placed, maybe with a little more space on the right for the fox to move into. But when photographing wildlife that is one of the challenges, and the way you have caught the fox mid-stride is great, and likely would not have been so had the shutter been pressed a fraction earlier as it walked into the frame. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
Meet the judge
There is something about this image which I find rather captivating, and it rose up during my image reviews to reach third spot. The gorgeously warm and rich golden shades are an obvious initial draw, but I think one of the things which makes the image successful is the low viewpoint you have adopted to capture the shot, as it gives a real feeling of being amongst the birds. The lighting conditions have rendered the birds semi-silhouette, but they have such strong shapes it works well. I think what also appeals is the combination of the "odd" looking pelicans as the main subject with the firey glow, which somehow gives a sense of "otherworldliness" to the image. It also works well that the birds in the background are partially obliterated by the fog, and we get a real sense of many other creatures lurking in the mist beyond, hidden from our vision. Congratulations on your third place finish.

This contest is for your photos which show just one colour throughout the image. The one colour can be any you choose; anything from bright primary colours to gentle pastels. Within the shot there can be several shades of the same colour. Some areas of black and/or white and very tiny areas of another colour can be included but the main colour should dominate the image. The subject is your choice, and can be anything such as landscapes, waterscapes, architecture, food, abstract or still life compositions. Please make sure your photo contains predominantly just one colour only across the entire image. I look forward to your entries.
