Owls

January 2021

Wow! An amazing action shot here. I love the lighting and the colours of the image. The BG with the grass against the dark works well. You can almost see the owl straining and reaching for the kill. Well done and good work :-)

In this contest I would like to see your best photos of owls. Photos can be in either colour, black and white, colour-toned etc. I look forward to seeing your images.

These owls are always impressive when flying, and with their huge claws outstretched, it is even more so. You have got great lighting on the subject against the dark BG. The face and the claws are sharp, which is great. At a focal length of 70mm, you must of been really close to this. I bet that it was a great thing to see? Well done and great work :-)

Oh my Lord! What a ball of fluff. It is hard to imagine owls like this. I like the way that you have the Owl in the field of grass, which complements the fluff of the owl. Eyes again, as with all the owl shots stand out in this shot. Interested if this was a setup shot, or if you found the owl like this on the ground. If it is the latter, I hope that the youngster was safe. Well done and nice shot :-)

I can not help but think of a cranky old man saying "What do you want?!" when I look at this shot. It is the angle of the body and the look on the face that does it. You have caught some amazing colours in this shot and I like the clean BG. The owl and post are sharp and you have done really well to capture a funny moment well. Great :-)

I am always a sucker for a nice silhouette image, and the way that you have the nice orange sun in the BG, really makes this image stand out. There is always a lot of getting every detail of the bird in a shot, and filling the frame with the subject, but with this kind of shot I think that you loose the feeling of an image. Your shot of an owl definitely has a feel to the shot, and "rules" have been broken. Your owl is sharp, as we can see from the claws on the post, and I like the way that the focus drifts off from the centre, leaving the outline of the owl in focus. Very nicely done and a pleasure to see. Well done :-)

Another great example of a flying owl. I like the clean BG and the fact that you have got the face of the subject sharp. Colours seem to imply that this was a bit of an overcast day with cloud? You have done well to track this owl in flight with a focal length of 400mm. Well done and great work :-)

I hope that you entered this image into the Christmas Card Competition as well :-) I loved that you have braved the elements for this shot, and the only thing that I think could of added to this would of been the owl looking at the camera. I appreciate that the owl is probably looking for prey here though. A layer of snow gives a nice look to the image. Well done :-)
