The classic three elements in this image caught my attention. Standing bright and very sharp against the black background. They are carefully positioned and sized to fit into the left hand side of the frame. For me this arrangement and composition works perfectly. The lighting is from the right hand side, throwing one side in shadow, This makes the pencils appear even sharper. The small amount of colored shavings around the base helps anchor the pencils and make a more three dimensional image. A sharp image and congratulations on making my top ten selection.
For me this image stood out because it was a refreshingly different from most of the other entries with your creative use of a model. I found your title and story behind the image very helpful, It allowed me me to form a personal interpretation of your image. For me the two figures represented graphic metaphors: the figure ascending the steep staircase of pencils is stretching bypassing one pencil, pushing upwards, going the extra distance. His pose and scale are excellent. The falling figure also has a good pose and the detail with the flying coat tails adds realism to his fall. For me he represents the step into the unknown, a leap of faith. As your title suggests a leap into the creative mind. One tiny detail I think I would have increased his size very slightly to match the climbing figure. A very creative image with a good story. I admire your vision and creativity, well done and congratulations on making my number one selection.
An amazing set of perfect pencils. They are so neatly fitted together that I initially thought that you must have assembled them in Photoshop, but careful examination shows that this is not so. The attention to detail and perfect framing makes this image really stand out. Great job and congratulations on making my top ten.
