What a phenomenal photograph.

When it comes to pictures of people looking upwards, there is always an air of mystery about what it is they are looking at just out of frame. Unless, of course, they are looking right at the camera.

This top-down black and white photograph depicting a pilgrimage in Ethiopia exemplifies that concept, transforming it into a beautiful composition. The little boy pierces the camera, standing out just enough from the bustling crowd to pull the viewer in.

Crowds of people are always difficult to shoot, but this superbly timed shot makes it look easy. The woman in red, holding her drink in hand, is distracted by something that no one around her seems to notice. The desaturated color palette of the photo is also very appealing; it draws you in closer to the maroon top the subject wears. Thank you for this submission. You take bronze!
