They say the eyes are the key to the soul and the eyes in this image say it all! The final result is strong and the black and white finish removes any distraction from the intense stare. A great capture.

This image is full of young emotion. The candid, documentary approach and the accomplished use of natural light and shadow presents an intimate insight into the subject’s life. The grain of the image marries perfectly with the fading light and the connection to the photographer is powerful.

A well-crafted and commanding image leading you directly to the subject’s gaze which the photographer has captured masterfully. It’s not fleeting, it’s an intense and powerful exchange between subject and viewer. The textures add interest and depth and the contrast heightens the intensity of the image.

Wonderful use of colour and pattern in this portrait. There is a lot to read from the image, from the countryside setting, the clothing, rug and proud positioning of the subject. The use of a carpet as a backdrop gives a sense of home and a picture builds of a figurehead of a family. A contemporary image with a glimpse to a hidden history and story to be told.

You can feel a strong bond between the mother and daughter in this image which the photographer has captured well. The composition however is a little weak and distracts from what is otherwise is a great shot. Use less negative space around their heads and crop in tighter.
