Although one of many submissions from the same photographer I have selected this scene as my winning image. It meets the spirit of my brief perfectly capturing predator and prey in an inevitable embrace almost suspended in time. Right place at the right time. Great shot.

What a great image, all the more so in that it was caught with a Digiscope which is not the easiest medium to capture images. Really pleased you submitted this image and have persevered for many years to refine your technique. Well Done.

In this contest I would like to see your best photos of predatory animals with their prey. Predators can be defined as any wild animal, mammal, insect or bird that hunts for food to survive. For example a polar bear hunting seals in the Arctic, killer whales hunting in the ocean, birds of prey hunting fish or small mammals and African predators hunting on the Savanna. Both predator and prey must be visible in the scene, so images stalking, pursuing and on the kill are acceptable, however please be sympathetic to the viewer by not submitting images revealing too much gore. Think more about the artistic side of this essential survival behavior. Please no images of captive predators e.g. zoo species being fed, domestic animals or humans as hunters.

There were lots of Kingfisher shots submitted but this is my favourite. A wonderful composition, really sharp and well focused around the Kingfisher and its prey. The bird stands out with good isolation from the background which is in keeping with the overall image.
