You have entered a very nice photo of the famous Moais of Easter Island. I love the vivid blue of the sky and the white of the clouds. The green grass provides the perfect backdrop for the Moasis and their shadows. I like the mountains in the far background, but wish the horizon was slightly straighter. All in all, this is a wonderful shot worthy of a top 10 position.
This was a fun contest to judge because the entries were from all over the world and showcased each of the different forms of rock art. Of all the entries of pictographs (drawings or paintings) this one from Australia stood out. I am not sure if this pictograph is on rock, a cliff wall, or inside a cave, but it certainly seems to have been well protected from the elements. The painting is clear. I love the white contrasting against the rock as well as the traditional aboriginal markings and native headdress. It feels as if you are witnessing an ancient dance or ceremony. Great image.
I really enjoyed this entry of a petroglyph from the Crow Canyon of New Mexico. While lay people often refer to any picture on a rock as a petroglyph, true petroglyphs are carved into a rock, as in this image. As I studied this picture, I found myself wanting to rub my hand across the rock to feel the carving for myself. The image is crisp and clear, even against the weathered surface of the rock.. The clarity, lighting and contrast are spot on. Thank you for your entry.
Beautiful capture of the balancing act of a large capstone poised on three smaller uprights. I love the starburst effect and the warm hues of the afternoon sun. I am glad you converted the image from slide and entered it in this contest. Thank you for sharing the background information on the site. The petroforms of Pentre Ifan are now on my bucket list of places to visit and shoot. Thank you for your amazing entry.
