In third place i have selected this cracking image of the puffin with a gull feather in its bill. The soft light in this shot and the vibrant colours created by the light hitting the subject sets this shot apart from many of the entries . The composition is excellent the subject sharp and the blurring of the pinks in the foreground help to conjure up visions of long summer days when these wonderful sea parrots can be seen on their nesting grounds well done to the photographer and congratulations on third placing.
this is an excellent head shot and is pin sharp the water droplets from the rain set this shot apart from the many other head shot entries the only reason it did not achieve a higher placing was that I would have preferred to see the full head in the frame and a bit more space around the subject.
This classic pose of the puffin with the sand eels emerged as my runner up second placing in this competition. Many headshots were entered and this one stood out for a number of reasons - the depth of field, clarity of the shot, the detail and the fact that both eyes and the full head are in the frame. Well done and congratulations on your second placing.
I chose this shot as my 4thplace award as it is a well balanced image with the subjects placed in the centre of the frame. The sharpness of each bird particularly in the head regions draws the viewer to the subjects and the cleanness of composition made this one pop out to me, a lovely image of three stunning birds congratulations to the photographer
They say wildlife photography is all in the eye of the subject well this shot of a single puffin meets that criteria exceptionally well. The bird is in a great pose and the head turn with the sand eels really caught my attention the post processing appears to be minimal and i loved the composition well done for my being awarded my fifth place in the competition.
This shot immediately caught my eye and did not disappoint when viewed in big screen. Three puffins in flight in a single frame is a difficult challenge and the photographer has make an excellent job of capturing a sharp image full of movement in an interesting composition. The image is different from the all other entries and with the clouds in the background provides an atmospheric feel without detracting from the main subject. Well done and congratulations on my award of first place.
