Rainy days

February 2021

Very nice almost monotone. Your photograph has a pleasant feel to it. I like the contrast between the fine, sharp lines and the droplets of water they support, somehow magically. Possibly a slightly deeper depth of field would have added a greater sense of depth to the image.

Great to see this amazing structure photographed in the rain when the lights are on. The textures are amazing from the shiny cladding to the rain in the sky and falling on the water. The light makes the whole image sing.

I have to imagine the big smile on the face of the paddler being isolated out on the water in the rain as they are. Your photograph has a lovely feeling of contentment to it. Another image I've chosen that makes great use of black and white.

The colors in this photograph give it a surreal sense of warmth, where there's nothing else about it that feels at all warm, quite the opposite. I love your low angle and thoughtful composition that really leads the viewer right into this picture.

Great capture. I know this is a common scene in many countries where the humble motorcycle is the family vehicle. To catch this one in the rain with the girl on the back so skillfully managing to keep her umbrella from being blown away is fantastic.

This one was an easy pick for me to give first place too. Your photo has so much going for it. The emotion of the guitarist fits so well with the wetness and together they invoke curiosity to want to know more. Great use of black and white. Well exposed despite the strong backlights. I like your composition and am not concerned your subject appears soft as I think this adds to the mood of the photograph.

He certainly appears to be determined to get to where ever he is going in the rain with his trusty bike as a back up I guess. This photo has a wonderful feeling and tells an interesting story. Good timing, composition, and exposure all work well together to make a very interesting photo.

Well executed slow shutter speed with a suitable amount of motion blur, not too much and not too little, to give it a real feeling of what is was like to be caught in this rainstorm. The lighting is great and I appreciate that you've chosen to share it as black and white.

Rain can be dramatic or subtle - the background to your photo’s subject or the main star. Our relationship with rain is long and complex, and a fear of getting your gear (or yourself!) wet can stop some from venturing out to take shots amid showers. But don’t be put off. With the right gear, and across a range of genres, rain offers great opportunities to photographers. *This contest is open to Photocrowd subscribers (Challenger/Pro/Master), or by purchasing entries.*

Tough subject to photograph, especially in the rain! You've captured the moment well. You're exposure and post-processing is spot on. Sadly it looks like the focus is not on the tackler's face, which would have made it a much stronger image. I know there's not much in it, but one of the main things that was drummed into me when I photographed rugby as a newspaper cadet photographer was to "make sure it's sharp"

Your composition is very appealing, as are the colors in this photograph. Mystery is added to the feeling of being on a train journey by the inclement weather. Everything about this photo makes me want to see what's around the corner and hidden in the fog.

I think it's a good subject to use a long lens for, even if it might not be poisonous! It looks sharp and is well exposed. The water droplets really make it pop and the golden web is wonderful. It's a real shame that the spider's legs are cropped off at the top and bottom of your photo.

I love the feeling in this photo. These women seem to be focused and have purpose and despite the rain they continue on to their goal. You've been able to add to the feeling by cathing the rain running off the roof. I love the big streaks because is makes it look like the rain is so much heavier. The pink umbrella is perfect because it adds to the positive feeling in this photo.

I really like your strong composition and the inclusion of different textures with the trees, iron work, and various pavements. The light brings such a mood to the photo. The cool and warm colors work well together and the single silhouetted figure adds character to this photograph.

You have a good eye for composition. I love the reflecting shapes of the balustrade on the pavement. At a glance, they look like they are painted on the ground. The amount of motion blur you captured is perfect, with just the one foot and shoe clear enough to see. Good use of black and white.
