This one was an easy pick for me to give first place too. Your photo has so much going for it. The emotion of the guitarist fits so well with the wetness and together they invoke curiosity to want to know more. Great use of black and white. Well exposed despite the strong backlights. I like your composition and am not concerned your subject appears soft as I think this adds to the mood of the photograph.

Rain can be dramatic or subtle - the background to your photo’s subject or the main star. Our relationship with rain is long and complex, and a fear of getting your gear (or yourself!) wet can stop some from venturing out to take shots amid showers. But don’t be put off. With the right gear, and across a range of genres, rain offers great opportunities to photographers. *This contest is open to Photocrowd subscribers (Challenger/Pro/Master), or by purchasing entries.*

Tough subject to photograph, especially in the rain! You've captured the moment well. You're exposure and post-processing is spot on. Sadly it looks like the focus is not on the tackler's face, which would have made it a much stronger image. I know there's not much in it, but one of the main things that was drummed into me when I photographed rugby as a newspaper cadet photographer was to "make sure it's sharp"
I love the feeling in this photo. These women seem to be focused and have purpose and despite the rain they continue on to their goal. You've been able to add to the feeling by cathing the rain running off the roof. I love the big streaks because is makes it look like the rain is so much heavier. The pink umbrella is perfect because it adds to the positive feeling in this photo.
