Easily one of my favourite images to have been entered. Lovely composition, great attention to detail, and my most favourite thing: the alluring and captivating glow of the cats eyes. All images tell a story in some form and this one gives an impression of one that might be supernatural, just like the image. The subjects pose is almost imposing and airs with a sense of confidence and power. Well done.
This is a great image with a rather endearing composure. It appears so simple yet deeply alluring, I find it difficult to take my eyes away from it. The thick mist and lone tree give an enticing sense of calmness and peace. Overall, the image is quite otherworldly and ethereal in appearance; its simplicity is one of its greatest strengths--it shows so little to the viewer, yet boundless in its power for suggestion and wonder. Well done!
Dark, gritty and endearing are three gripping qualities of this image. It feels like it tells a great deal many stories in its sombre, abandoned appearance, which is well complimented by the moody use of lighting. It gives an impression of a cold and forgotten loneliness. An image with great depth and composition that are difficult to ignore. Well done.
Meet the judge
One of the first things that strikes me with this stunning image is the level of detail in the foreground and subject. I love how you can make out so many of the individual strands of the horse hair. One of the greatest features, and possibly my favourite, would be the sense of mystery and almost magical, fantasy-like feel the image has. An incredibly intriguing shot overall.
Lighting is one of the greatest things we can play with when it comes to photography. The type of light we choose to shoot in can be the difference between a dull and uninspired image, or a stunning wonder for all to see; this image certainly falls under the latter. The image hosts a stunning transition from light to dark, the golden colour is just vivid enough, and the juxtaposition between the light and dark sides of the image give an impression of two worlds separated from one another. Its thoughtful asymmetry is possibly one of its most powerful features.

Brilliant lighting, well framed and feels like it has a great depth to it. The image and subject tell many different, though ambiguous stories to the viewer. Your portrait is very quick to grab attention and offers a superb mixture of detail, wonder, storytelling and implication. As soon as I saw and compared this portrait it was a sure thing for my top 5. Well done!
