In the beginning, anthropologists tell us, we ran to chase animals for food. Running until our prey became too exhausted to continue. Nowadays, whilst many of us forget how to run once we’ve left the playground behind, for those known simply as ‘runners’, the practise is very much alive and well. They run around cities, up mountains, across deserts, enjoying the Runner’s High, and doing what our bodies were built to do.
